Tim Sheens last night admitted Wests Tigers might be interested in taking Brett Kimmorley off Cronulla's hands -- but only at the right price.
The Sharks halfback is a close friend of coach Chris Anderson, whose signing to the Roosters on Friday led to immediate speculation Kimmorley might be headed to Bondi Junction.
Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan ruled that out. But Sheens refused to "confirm or deny" interest in Kimmorley, although he imagined the cost would be "prohibitive".
But Sheens said: "As far as whether we're interested in [the former Test half], I would neither confirm nor deny it at this stage.
"Anyone would be interested in a player like him but I would imagine the cost would be prohibitive. We're interested in any quality player, but ..."
Insiders say that while Kimmorley is popular in the shire and highly regarded as a player, his $425,000 annual fee is seen as the ticket to funding the cleanout many are pushing for.
Even if the Sharks contributed to a Kimmorley contract at the Tigers, the money saved would help them sign Ricky Stuart as coach and upgrade the contract of NSW lock Paul Gallen, who has asked for a release.
But when asked if there was any prospect of the playmaker not being at the club next season, Cronulla chief executive Greg Pierce said: "No."
"This is the sixth or seventh call I've received on this issue and the only people saying it are the media. Neither Brett nor his manager has come to me."
shireboy said:Honestly, what has noddy done since joining the sharks?
Beat Newcaslte by heaps once, beat Manly by heaps once, threw THAT intercept pass in Origin 1 last year.
People go on about all the good stuff he's done in his career, but it seems like he's done nothing much since he came here. Is he worth what we pay him any more, or is it all reputation?
jonahshark said:yeah i agree. look, i've always been a fan of his - he does some special things, like that time on the second tackle he saw no fullback and just chipped over the crossbar for himself with the side of his boot, and the ball just stopped for him to ground. but then again, his typical game just isn't so special.
someone on this forum once said something like "is it so much to ask for me to be excited when the sharks are in the opposition 20?". Maybe we do need some spark, maybe from somewhere else.
That's why i think seymour was a good signing; he'll have time to adjust to the sharks' game before being relied on by himself in 2008 at halfback - Noddy's not going anywhere this year
Hey mate,PornStar said:So we lay the blame all on Kimmorley? ...
I felt so much pain for Kimmorley that night. Even the commentators were saying it was a pass that could have gone either way, and if it wasn't intercepted, would've resulted in a NSW try ... but it didn't.PornStar said:So he threw an intercept pass in origin which cost the game...
PornStar said:So we lay the blame all on Kimmorley? Kimmorley has been an integral part of the team since joining, he excelled under the right coaching conditions, with support from other players and the right tactical approach the guy will put opposing teams away with ease its just plain dumb to suggest otherwise.
So he threw an intercept pass in origin which cost the game, do we blame him or his support players who were in bad positions and forced him to throw that pass in an effort to reach his support players, is he the only guy in the world who throws intercepts? he is far from it. If the pass was thrown in any other game we would all have forgotten it after a week and life would have moved on but some people just cant let it go.
I say again when he is supported well and given the right tactical approach from a decent coach he will win with ease, Systems dont make players............players make systems, something stuart raper could surely try to understand.
