Looking forward to seeing him run out in Sharks colours. When does the season start again?

I've been watching a lot of Shaun Johnson highlights since we signed him. You only see the good parts, I know. But given how quality those highlights are, and how bloody many there are, I wouldn't be surprised if he was the most gifted all-round player we've ever had at our club.

The thing about SJ is that I wouldn't really call him a rocks and diamonds player in the mold of Carney, Maloney, Milford ect, ya know talented halves that on their day can pull off amazing plays but also make brain dead plays or errors at other times.

SJ is either on fire and electric or just kinda there but he isn't stinking it up or making a mountain of errors or bad plays either. For all his dynamic exuberance he's a fairly sensible player and his short/long kicking will also be an asset. He can be quite adept at getting repeat sets or getting kick receivers turned round and into awkward positions on the field. The biggest criticism he cops is "going missing" or not "taking control".

The point I am making is if his "bad" is simply lack of involvement or direction that will improve with time at the Sharks. SJ won't cost us any games (*cough* maloney..) but I think he can win us plenty.
We are on a good wicket with SJ, but unlike our aussie batsmen in Adelaide we will actually take advantage of that.

Here's hoping he won't have to do that.

Chad should be doing all the controlling while SJ runs the ball. He can pick and choose his spot and let CT organise the forwards and where we're going.

I'm banking on them getting their combo back together like they did at the Warriors.

This is Chad's big test though - if he doesn't produce the goods, he has FJ and perhaps Trindall breathing down his neck.

im willing to wager Jnr is given a good crack at making the 7 his, he knows it too.

Jnr will 100% get his shot this year one way or another. Atm Chad is our best 7, but if Jnr shows glimpses of being able to be as good, going forward he will be the better option. Isn't Chad on like 800k? Surely jnrs 3 year deal isn't even worth 800k. It won't take much for him to be better value for money.

The value for money is what I think makes this interesting. Papers recently rumoured Chad on 500k which is about right for him.

If FJ can do close to Chad for way less then it’s something to think about.

FK has blown some pretty big games the last two years so I’m not sure he’s up to it for a while

Wasn't the whole Maloney issue mainly because Chad was on a better wicket? No way Jimmy was on less than 600k

In your head, rent free
We signed maloney at the going rate on a 3 year deal

In that time, for whatever reason, we re-signed chad to a stupid deal

The the Hunt deal and Maloney went into baby mode

I have watched every game for past 5 seasons and always liked SJ as very talented. He has had a few injury issues past 2 seasons which I hope he is over. He is coming into Sharks culture and all going well he could become one of the many gifted players we have had. We have had many gifted players unlucky to win a premiership since 1967, not that winning a premiership is the standard. For him to be the most gifted, he would need to deliver (finals) just about every year and remain with us for remainder of his career.

FMD we are measuring players value by their social media followers now? I get that SJ has a profile which can attract new fans and sponsors but if he stinks it up on the footy field there is no way it will be considered a good signing. If he was that valuable why did the Warriors let him walk? Do they not care about fans and sponsors?

I would wait till the bloke plays too.

But the Warriors are a very different scenario to Cronullar.

When the Warriors are going well they have four Million fans..no matter who is playing for them.

They didn't let Johnson go for 2019 he walked out. He was under contract.
