I agree with most of that, but I'd probably put Cliff Watson in the pre Flanno list. He was more important than a couple of the other forwards listed.

Cliffy easily ahead of guys like Stevens, Nikau, Lance and G Bird.

Why? Signings arent just about being on the field. Look what he has done for us at the moment without even having a training session

For me, one of the main criteria’s for being on the list is the player actually should of had an onfield impact. Odd concept I know ;)

After all the primary reason they’re signed is to, you know, play football. He hasn’t played football for us yet. If he lives up to his hype then I have no doubt he’ll end up in anybody’s top 5 signings list, including this pleb here *points at self*.

I don't know if my list is our "best" signings.

What I thought of when I saw this thread, is that we have a history of signing guys who - whilst were probably never regarded as the best in their position at the time - you wouldn't have swapped for anyone on their day.

In no particular order:

Paul Green
Brett Kimmorley
Todd Carney
Ben Barba
James Maloney
and now Shaun Johnson

Tell me about it! I’m sitting around with a bottle of lube just waiting for his interviews. I can’t believe we have this guy!

Imagine the impact if he never plays a game and thus has much more time to do interviews!

That’s how I took this thread title too! But as I said, going by name and talent alone, he’s up there. It’s obviously going to take some time before he’s able to be compared to players that have been around for a while

he is literally bigger than our club on stature

a golden boot winner, a freak on the pitch and brilliant off of it

he will bring us sponsors, we can finally tap into the NZ market and will be a huge attraction for players

he is an incredible signing, i cant believe we pulled it off

the fact he hasnt played a game for us, if he had id have him at number 3
