There's an NRL advertisement in the Telegraph today saying that the "Membership Premiership" is on again. (sorry, I can't find any online confirmation)

This year, the "Battle of the Beaches" is between:

Cronulla
Manly
Easts
Gold Coast

I think it starts tomorrow. $10,000 to the winner.

Up the sharks.

What was the 10k for though? It'd be good to hear from the club on this. It was some marketing thing? Was it actually worthwhile? The best marketing that could have come from it would have been for nrl.com to acknowledge us as winners considering all of the press we got last year was based on how low our member numbers were.

The winner of each category competition is supposed to get 10k. So the club should have got 10k

Yeah from memory it was for membership promotional purposes or some crap.

But I got the impression that the NRL took their bat and ball when the unexpected happened...

Yeah, I emailed the NRL several times at the time, asking why they hadn't updated the page to reflect that our numbers were greater and that we had won the battle of the beaches, when they had done so for other winners immediately. They never responded despite my barrage of emails.

I asked the same, they ended up getting back to me and saying some crap like "we decided to let the team announce it on their site".

They then announced the winner of every other battle promptly.

They were updating the race constantly and only stopped as soon as we won. I just can't explain it other than an extreme bias at their end.

it would also be good if this competition was run when these new members were still able to get their name on our members jersey

Not sure what you guys expected, I thought the after the seventies all sharks supporters (even ones born in the eighties) that the NRL/ARL have a set against our club and a bias for Manly etc. Well NRL we will not roll over and die despite all your efforts to kill us off. Roll on the devlopment approval

Didn't Manly have pet memberships last year and still didn't outdo us? Cheating bastards.... Just like the Dragons with their memberships for Wollongong and/or Kogarah meaning season ticket holders counted as 2 memberships rather than 1.

For this year's 'Battle Of The Beaches' we are going to up the ante and try a couple of things that haven't been done in Sharks history before. It may work. It may not.

My fingers are crossed!
