Connor Tracey isn't even 19 yet. I reckon it will be at least another 4 years before he is playing regular first grade. And that's assuming he reaches his potential, remembering Townsend had similiar raps on him and is only now seen to be a decent first grader.

I'd rather gamble on Hastings who at least has a few runs on the board, then a kid who could end up being a complete flop. Signing Maloney would be a massive upgrade, but we will be scouring the market again in two, three years.

Just because he is 19 doesn't mean that it is 4 years before he will be a regular first grader.
Mbye is only 21 and Townsend was playing first grade when he was still in the 20's.
It is the old saying: "if your good enough, your old enough."
Let's just hope that Tracey is someone who is good enough.

Maloney for 2-3 years is nice. Pinning all of our hopes on a teenager like Tracey is unwise. It will all work itself out if we have 2 first grade quality halves from next season.

Agree with this, remember a guy called Tony Caine, he had massive raps on him, poor bloke ended up having one of the worst leg breaks ever (cant remember for sure but I am thinking it was his FG debut as well).

Anyway it was virtually the end for him, never kicked on ever again, who knows maybe it was the leg break, maybe he was never going to live up to the promise, point is, anything can happen.

Pretty sure Te Maire Martin has been mentioned before but would love us to have a look at him. Off contract this year at the tigers with Moses and Brooks in front of him, 5/8 of the year in under 20's last year. 8 tries, 8 line breaks, 12 try assists and 13 line break assists this year.

That's Robbo's stats for the whole of last year

if we are looking at talented young guys as signings i.e. under 20s players, we have plenty. We also have a junior rep half.

All means nothing with ******** as head coach. He's incapable of nurturing and developing a young half into an NRL player

That incident was sickening .

Thanks to that pillar of society , Steve Price.

Didn't he do it to Kimmorley as well, took him out for a month or two.

Bloody dog he was, it was so evident what he was doing yet it took the NRL so long to do anything about it.

to be fair, thats where the appointment of a high end attacking/halves coach would be the best investment this football team could make. The head coach can only do so much, especially when they have limited experience with certain positions. Not saying Flannos the man but you know what i mean.

We have all the right materials there to do a good job, just need the right person to come and fit it out.

In more playing signing news, Panthers back-rower Sika Manu is being targeted by three Sydney NRL clubs.

Fox Sports have reported Souths, St George Illawarra and Cronulla are in a race to sign the 28-year-old Kiwi and Tonga international.

It's believed Souths are the favourites to win his signature with Sika Manu having been coached by Michael Maguire while the pair were at the Storm in 2009.

Manu will bring a lot of NRL experience. He's played 14 Tests for New Zealand and won a premiership with Melbourne Storm in 2012.

He has played 134 NRL games, having debuted with Melbourne in 2007 before joining Penrith in 2013.

I know Triple M isn't overly reliable, but its worth posting.
