yeah, I'd still prefer another outright half beside him.

Baraba might be ok though. He's got a bit of zip for that other role. He lacks the long kicking game, but maybe Chad + Wade + Ennis + whoever else could get us by.

Nu Brown might be able to be used too.
yeah I'd probably lean towards this as well, chuck bird in the centres and nu on the bench.

Imo holmes has been better on the wing then at fullback, granted he has limited time at fullback but I wouldn't count barba out from playing in the 1, although it will harm Val's progress and we are at a danger of losing him

AB this is one thing I don't understand. Is it really that hard for someone to play on a different side? I mean I can understand the need to play on one particular side in a sport like soccer, but why League?

I know Chadley will back me up on this one.

It shouldn't be but it seems to be increasingly so as teams structure themselves with left side and right side attacks rather than long backlines. Few teams play with genuine 7/6 combinations anymore. You could probably argue that the side a half plays on is more important than the number he's wearing. Example: this push for Pearce to play 6 for NSW is really a push for him to play on the right side where he does for the Roosters.

Look these guys can play on both sides. Just that it doesn't necessarily make best use of their abilities. For instance we had Nu Brown playing right-side last year as a 6. Nu can play 6 fine. But he's a left foot kicker, so that was cramped by pressure coming from his inside. He's got a wicked left foot step as well but its more use on the left side where he can beat sliding defenders back on the inside. From what I've seen his right to left pass is a bullet too but that gets put away. We saw lots examples of his skills in the 9s and invariably it was on the left.

I see it as going down the same round as centres did 20+ years ago when they became locked in to either side of the field.

As for Chad, I watched him very closely coming through the U20s and his right to left pass is twice as good as his left to right. And he's done all his damage this year playing on the left side while Johnson plays the right.

Then we'd be mad to contemplate Holmes on wing .
He will be an awesome fullback like in the juniors and too good to risk loosing .
Barba was purchased as a half .
If necessary go back to NSW Abd get your confidence .

The question would be where Townsend will be played. I haven't put Gallen,Lewis, heigho or tupou as they are on their last legs

We have a lot of spots needing to be filled in years to come. We need to get this coaching thing sorted now. If flanno is staying, abide by rules and no more shenanigans

Hastings wouldn't be a bad buy, has talent but attitude which Can be fixed and isBest mates with bird

AB posted a good reply to this, so I won't re-quote it.

I'd like to add though - in simple terms, it's about being left handed or right handed. Every player passes better on one side over the other, fends better with his preferred side, steps & kicks better off his favoured leg.

I'd partner Townsend with either Nu or Murphy, no matter how inexperienced. Also, Gagan is easily in our top 17. He's 10x better winger than Feki.

Never thought I would say this but I'm actually pro bringing back Townsend. According to Fox Sports he is currently the top playmaker from NSW based on stats:

"If the numbers were the sole judge it would be Townsend on the cusp of selection.

Shaun Johnson’s halves partner has thrived in his role, racking up an incredible nine linebreaks, five linebreak assists and 10 try assists in his nine games.

Austin and Green have four try assists apiece, while the Raiders surprise packet has crossed for five tries himself.

All three have kicked well, with Townsend edging it in that department with a 40/20, three forced drop outs and an average 141 kick metres per game."

They must have made a mistake, Chad plays for the Vulcans. The experts here couldn't be wrong

The question really needs to be asked however; how much of Townsend's talent this season is directly as a result of playing along side SJ? Put him next to Robson this season and he'd be one of the rankest surely

Granted. He has a better kicking game that Robbo. And doesn't look like a retarded pedestrian when taking the ball at first or second receiver. Massive improvement. If getting Chad is what it takes to remove Robbo I am all for it.

IMO Chad has performed very well, and i don't think this is because he is next to Johnson, sure put a **** half next to him and make him the only play maker and im sure he won't be as effective, but that is the case with almost any half. He has thrown some excellent long balls which have led to tries, kicked well, particularly long and his biggest improvement has been his willingness to run the ball and take the line on from time to time.

If we can get another solid half.

something like this would be great in my opinion.

Holmes
Gagan
Bird
Luetele/Beale
Feki
Townsend
(insert new half)
A fifita
M Ennis
D Fifita
Lewis
Graham
Gallan

Nu brown
Bukuya
Prior
Topou/heignington/a big bopper.

Personally , I think SJ has had little influence on Chad's form.

The warriors play their halves left and right and you could count on two hands the amount of times they have passed to each other this year.

If fact, Chads side has been the dominant one for the warriors. SJ has provided brilliant individual touches and also periods of nothing.

Chad is not JT , but he is the best available, and is also one of us , which i know a lot of people think does not count , but I think he genuinely wants to be part of something special at this club and his harshest critics have to concede his improvement , particularly in taking on the defence himself.

Good points.

To do with left and right halves, or any position, I understand that if one side is more suited to a players natural strengths you factor that in. But if a player can ONLY operate efficiently down one side he's half useless in my book. Too much emphasis has gone into left and right players, halves in particular, and so many attacks are screaming out for their halves to link.
