I've said for the past week I could handle if dce stayed at manly, but if he went to the Gold Coast I'd be pissed off, and this is why, the nrl are a joke and most likely cost us the chance to sign the best half back on the open market, I feel sorry for the club, they put so much effort into getting trying to get him here, unbelievable effort and most likely just to be screwed by the nrl
I don't understand the problem. All the NRL has done is guarantee their offer (unless I've missed something). It could have just as easily been Canterbury of Souths making the 3.5 million dollar offer (if that was what they felt they needed).

The whole thing is a cap issue. Titans, Manly and Sharkies are all willing to gamble on spending so much of the cap on one player. All teams are competing on their merits aren't they? As far as I know anyway.

Correct. Most afternoons I try and listen to it but end up swearing at the radio and turning it off. Biased and usually ill informed tripe!

Yeah mate don't worry about it. Take a leaf out of my book and don't read/watch/listen to gossip sports media during the week; just watch the game on the weekend. I barely even come to this thread.

I have little idea what's going on with the drug scandal in queensland at the moment, and even though it was directly affecting the Sharks, I wasnt keeping up with the ASADA crap that was going on. I just had faith the club would come out of it in one piece (which it definitely did).

All these storms in teacups - they're not worth obsessing over.

From cb4 on the other forum:

If there is anything we have learnt from this saga, player managers manipulate the media.

- Only a select few Sharks employee's knew if the DCE meeting. All have been cleared of informing the media.
- He left our meeting satisfied with our offer and our vision of the future.
- We were leading the race from there.
- A meeting was had between Forans management and DCE's management with the Eagles to discuss the future, with the outcome unsuccessful for Manly.
- DCE all but agreed to terms until the NRL stepped in.
- Despite Greenburgs tweets about not helping with recruitment, they have guaranteed his deal and informed him of the role he will play in marketing the GC area.
- His deal will more than double from outside income and promotion if he joins the GC which has left us and Manly furious.
- The medias report of our offer is completely wrong. We have offered him more than is reported but is a manipulation to get us to break our silence or offer more coin.
Does anyone think we would offer the best half in the game 50k more than Trent Merrin per annum?
- We have a third party backer who has now upped his investment after the NRL moved the goal posts to try and get him to the Shire but it seems to have been unsuccessful.
- The media also forgot to report our offer to Trent Merrin.

Don't believe the papers, the mole or the lurker. They are puppets for managers to get the best deal going.

The only agreeing to terms that matters is whether he signed a contract.

Unless the Titans are breaking the cap neither we or Manly have anything to complain about. Or are you suggesting that you would like an uneven competition where some clubs can't spend to the cap? Don't ever complain about the cap being unfair if that is what you are complaining about.

The definition of cap is maximum - there have been a lot of years where we haven't been able to spend it all, don't recall the NRL calling a press conference to guarantee our offers so we can offer somebody the biggest deal in NRL history.

It has completely made the competion unfair because the NRL want a poster boy for the GCT now they have taken ownership. If he is truly getting money outside the cap as an ambassador for the game in the area then they are outright cheating.

Not sure we can complain that much, but Manly should be furious.

Yeh same, if he was going to sign a contract he wouldn't be doing it around 3pm on a Monday arvo, it would be in non public view & I dare say at night contract signing.

The parody account, THE NRL AGENT on twitter is reporting that he is at the club now.

He also reported Merrin signed with Titans last night.

Its a gee up.

The idea behind the cap is that every club spends to it. The last thing the NRL would want is a two tiered cap, and frankly neither do I. The salary cap is what gives us a chance to win the premiership. Hell, we haven't either missed out on DCE as far as I'm aware. We are competing for a player fair and square as are the Titans. There are three clubs gambling on spending a huge bunch of cap on one player. DCE gets to choose.

We should be competing for players on our own merits, not by hoping other clubs go broke.
