"Rugby league can be a tough game. Centre Jonathan Wright asked the Cronulla Sharks for a mid-year release to join the Bulldogs. It was denied. He’s now been told his services are not required. He is married with two young children, can’t find a club, and is unemployed."

As sad as this is, I am SO SO happy we aren't sticking with this doofus. One of the worst players to play for Cronulla.

Should have let him go mid-year. I know we had an injury crisis but we were obviously out of finals contention anyway.

We had a injury crisis, so we needed him. Even though we were out of finals contention we should always seek to field as competitive team as possible.

He is a great bloke and always put in his all - he could find a way to bomb a try though. He will pick up a club dogs will probably take him when the three brothers pull out of their deal and stay with the knights.

Yeah I know. I just think we should of let him go and given someone like a Feki or Gagan a go in the centres in his place, look towards the future. It was unlikely we were going to re-sign him and he had another offer. I think both parties could have got something out of an early release.

Agree.

On one hand we should have done the right thing and released him while he had an offer, given we had no intention on re-signing the bloke.

On the other if he was good enough he'd have no drama attracting offers.

He wasnt our worst but he was Pom like. Would get u excited with a good showing and back it up with 8 terrible ones.

He should be able to get a run somewhere. Everyone is tinkering and trying to squeeze as much out of the cap as possible at the moment.

If doesn't get a go here I'm sure he'll get a run in the UK.

All the best to him.

If we didn't have the injury problems that we did. He would of got his release. I don't see anything wrong with this. Yes it's harsh but Jono had a contract for the rest of the year to fulfill at Cronulla and they were well within their rights to hold him to it. Even if they weren't willing to extend it. Life of a contract worker.

He shouldn't worry though. He'll get a deal somewhere for sure.

Rooster to be chopped
Shaun Kenny-Dowall was one of the heroes of the Kiwis’ epic win over Australia in the Four Nations final - but his future is very much up in the air. With the Roosters set to sign bad boy Blake Ferguson, they are considering offloading SKD despite the fact he is under contract for next season. With quality centres in short supply, I am hearing both the Sharks and Tigers are interested in the lanky centre. Kenny-Dowall is on big money at the Roosters, signing a long-term deal with the club in 2010 when he was regarded as the best centre in the world. The Roosters would have to pay some of his wage for next season - but are believed to be willing to do that to get Ferguson on board. The former Raiders and Sharks centre has already started training with the club but still needs to be cleared by the NRL to resume playing after a series of off-field incidents.
