He was linked with Newy. Why is no one taking a punt on him
A lot of people who watch Q Cup speculate that there must be some off field reasons, or some perception that he is too small or poor in defence.

Similar situation to Billy Walters. Carved up for years but was told he was too small. He hasn’t suddenly become a better player now - he’s just bigger.

people said that about Kade ****ing Snowden

I don’t think Jolliffe is going to end up being a gun, but he’s certainly improved massively in the last 2 years and deserves his shot. Given that the Titans are missing one prop for the year and have one or two more who will miss time for origin he could get an upgrade and a few games at some stage.

It’s a great example that players - especially middle forwards - shouldn’t really be treated with the old attitude of “if they haven’t made it by 21 they won’t make it”. In in 2018 Jolliffe wasn’t one of the best 17 in the Newtown lineup and played 3rd grade at Cabramatta for parts of the season.

I just hate this ‘one who got away’ ****. We won our only premiership with 1 local junior. For every player that leaves theres an opportunity to gain someone better.

Agree, local junior was a warm and fuzzy story way back when. This is modern day professional sport. When I looked around upon the final whistle back on the 2nd October 2016, I’m guessing people weren’t crying all around me because there was only one local junior in our 17....

Yup, as much as I love development of junior talent and seeing them come through the ranks. It's a pipe dream to build a premiership winning team out of juniors

I can't think of any other professional sports that place so much emphasis on it

I also don’t agree with the “one who got away” mentality, but I do think clubs sometimes make strange decisions on players.

The club had spent several years developing Jolliffe to the point where he was possibly ready to take the next step - and then they let him walk. They went out and got Rudolf and Uele over the last two years (both great buys) when they were doing similar things in the lower grades - why not Jolliffe?

As for a lack of local juniors in the GF side... it’s not about local juniors. It’s about talent developed in house.

These players either cams through the s Sharks system, debuted with the Sharks after playing 20’s elsewhere, or came over very young and played a lesser role for multiple years while they developed.

- Bird
- Feki
- Gallen
- Holmes
- Townsend
- Leutele
- Bukuya
- Graham
- Fifita

That’s 9 of the 17... and Nu Brown also played a valuable role filling in through the origin period.

Sure - they made some well timed acquisitions of some veteran guys across the lineup, but let’s not pretend that developing young talent over multiple years wasn’t a huge part of the premiership.

The best reason to leave is presumably a better opportunity but looks like Jolliffe might have actually screwed himself out of an NRL contract for 2020. He went from dev contract with us to trialling for one with Titans.

Meanwhile we brought in Hunt on a train and trial and ended up giving him an NRL contract.

Uele has been with us nearly three years, I think he arrived In 2017, he spent some time in the lowers. He played one game for the cowboys.

100% Burgess. To me it seems 18's SG Ball appears to be 99% "local" Juniors, 20's Jersey Flegg seems to me to be open slather, with best of the 18's retained, topped up by any open trialled or scouted players from anywhere in Aus and NZ etc , they then "Blend " in the 'In house"system- jnrs, and non jnrs.

Yeah - others have covered most of it.

2017 he played the whole season with the Mackay Cutters (Cowboys feeder). He went well - but there was some talk of Paul Green not being happy with his attitude/conditioning.
