Do you use it to buy an NRL starting ball playing fullback from somewhere?
Best bet would have been to over pay to pinch Pap or Hughes if Melbourne hadn't dropped Croft this season, they did in the end so it becomes much less viable.
Papenhuyzen is not a ball playing fb. Never has been. Melbourne can get away with it because they have so many other ball players, and not just in conventional positions (e.g. Finucane, Kenny Bromwich). Same with CNK at Canberra (their 11 and 12 can ball play, and Hodgson plays a bit of lock)
It's also the reason why AJ Brimson hasn't been successful at fb. He and Papenhuyzen have been comparable players at every other level (junior, rep, Q Cup) but the GC don't have the ball playing across the park to compensate. Their 7 was garbage and their forwards are all just battering rams.
If you want to succeed with that type of FB you need to have more Graham/Magoulias/Wilton type forwards and less Uele/Williams/Bukuya type ones. The Sharks this year were built to play with a ball playing fullback but were forced to play without one.
