What does everyone think of Mitch Cornish? Zero tackle just done a peice about the 5 best off contract halves and if we could get him from Canberra and for the right price i'd give it a go. Of course if we can go with a proven star like Hodko or Maloney than we go with them first.

Here is what they wrote about him

Mitch Cornish:
The youngest player on the list and the smokey of the group, Canberra's halfback Mitch Cornish, has shown the last 2 weeks especially, he is going to be a very consistent halfback. Cornish is a player you could build a team around and with more experience he can only get better. The 22 year old has only 10 NRL games next to his name but has shown a touch of class in all of them, Cornish is a natural leader, a great communicator on field and a great organiser. Cornish was handed the number 7 jersey over the more experienced Sam Williams for the 2015 season and in the first game against the Sharks showed his pin-point accuracy when kicking the football. Cornish is currently 5th in Kicking metres in the NRL and 5th in kicking into open space. Look for Cornish to attract some handsome offers.

Should be talking to everyone on that list excluding Sandow* as a matter of urgency.

*I like Sandow but he wouldn't pair well with Barba.

I think he'd pair well with Barba but I can't see Lyall giving the idea much thought.

As Snowman intimated previously, double risk if the club had two potentially loose canons.

Sandow is more of an off-the-cuff half than an organiser imo which is what we need. If we didn't have Barba I'd be all for signing him.

I think Sandow has become better organised as he's matured. He seems to mostly play within set plans for Parra these days.

He still loses the plot a bit when playing catch up footy though.

edit: 2010 beat me to it

Should we really be signing a halfback on the basis that he may fit in around Barba?

We could have a Sandow and Nu Brown pairing in the halves with Barba at fullback. Holmes and Gagan on the wing. Centres, every man for himself.

Baaa :p

Nu is as much of an unknown as an NRL half as Barba though.

I have confidence in Barba if he has the right halfback. I do like Sandow and if we can't snag one of the other names I'd prefer then I wouldn't have an issue signing him.

spot on mate, this is another reason I want sandow, if the barba experiment doesn't pan out getting a player like hodko isn't going to do a great deal for us. I think some people are putting to much faith into barba excelling at 5/8, while I admit it's only early days and there were good signs in round 1, he went backwards last week in a game that we had so much ball in their 20. Obviously he is going to need a month or two to form combination but what do we do if he is still struggling come the end of the year?

I just hope people aren't expecting barba to play like he did in the 20's. It's just not going to happen

I predicted at the start of the season that Nu would get a run in the halves sometime this season and sadly his injury probably means that won't happen. I still believe he could play in the halves with an experienced partner and be very good. But that would require development and patience.......

So Maloney is odds on to re-sign with the roosters shortly and hodkinson is doing the same with the dogs.

Think we should look at a bloke in the ESL who has the kicking game we need and point to prove in Luke Walsh. He will be 28 next year so won't delay the development of any of our younger halves.

He signed a 2 year deal but I believe the second year is an option in his favour.
