I like all of those outside backs, but for me our outside backs arent the problem. Our problem is in the halves.

Disagree with this.

Robson, apart from his long kicking game (which in his defence hasn't been to poor so far.), has done well this season. He's been spreading the ball to the edges more and has cut back on his inside balls. His defence is 10/10 as usual.

When he gets the ball in hand Barba looks dangerous and showed how good his passing game is against the Raiders giving quality ball twice to Leutele for tries. His defence has been a surprise packet with Ben missing barley any tackles so far. His biggest weakness as we all know is his kicking game, it's atrocious. Say what you will about Robson but he at least has a decent short kicking game, whereas Barba has yet to produce a decent kick for us. There's a way to remove Barba from kicking duties and it comes down to who's at fullback.

Our biggest problem is fullback. Gordon has been poor in the first two rounds. He doesn't attack kicks (it infuriates me when he just lets the ball roll behind him) and his lack of ball playing skills kills our very few chances in the opposition 20. Now I know it was the nines and I know they were drop kicks for goal, but Holmes showed he at least has some kind of kicking game. A little work and it wouldn't surprise me if Holmes could develop a lethal kicking game. Now if we could have Ennis, Graham and Holmes taking charge of the long kicking game, and Robson on our shot kicking game, that would allow Barba to just focus on his ball playing skills.

1. Holmes

6. Barba
7. Robson

9. Ennis

This is the clubs best possible spine IMO.

Gordon was our best player last year and he IMO still the safest choice at FB. While not with pace he used to have, he is still looks dangerous at times. I think Holmes will be a stonking FB, but I think we keep Gordon there and work Holmes in much like the rooters did with Mini and RTS.

Given Robbo's solid defence you could say he's safe as well. The problem is, being safe alone when you're playing in an attacking position doesn't cut it. We need more.

I'll agree that Flash is a strong ball runner and can look dangerous at times. As has been said a million times in here he can do that from the wing where he can't get in the way of backline movements.

I hear this all the time but I don't really agree.

Gordon was our best player last year because he was the only regular first grader to not be injured for a long period of time.

Gordon has a horrible 2014 up until about round 20. Up until then was the worst fullback in the nrl. Feki was our best last year imo. Awards dont mean ****

Agreed, and he played the most games, and we got the spoon, so being the best player for a team that got the spoon. Nothing to write home about.

C'mon be fair, he was better than Barba/Perrett/whoever St George had/West Tigers reserves when Tedesco injured/Zillman/Gidley/Boyd/Minichiello etc etc.

I'm keeping faith in Gordon for now. He's starting to pass the ball, we just need Beale to take it on the run instead of pausing when he catches it. I don't recall any actual dropped balls this year from him, he's also saved a few tries in defense that often go un-noticed. If we had a half and could hold the ball I think his support play will be appreciated. Basically he's not playing as bad as he was early last year when I would've been happy to see him dropped.

But whatever, he's fine as a winger as well. Don't want to see everyone be disappointed if Holmes isn't ready for the play-making fullback role in the big league.

The post was in response to another post suggesting 5 players on the market next year who are outside backs. Holmes isn't sourced from another club and Jack Bird isn't either. If you have read any of my other posts you would have saw that Holmes has been consistently mentioned as my first choice number 1. So i will say again, no we don't need any other outside backs. we have suffiecient quality at the club, what we are lacking is a halfback and the correct person playing in the number 1 jumper.

I'd take Moltzen over Robson, we wouldnt be as strong defensively but imo the extra attack he would offer would outweigh the defence shortfall.

A player can't attack if he's always injured. Moltzen's more injury prone than Tedesco.

Worth signing Lui and Kennedy? Improve our image and all that
Need a half and a prop and both will be cheap at the moment :)
