If this teaches anyone anything, it's that MONEY brings players to clubs.

Not 'If they come here, they are coming for the right reasons'

Spare me.

Unless it's all a smokescreen and as Snow and Co. have said our offers had been blowing others out of the park...But the media all seem to be going with the same story

I wonder what sort of an upgrade this will be for DCE - anyone know a ball park figure on what he's currently on. He's going to more than double his money surely.

Close to triple if the titans offer is correct, he's on about 500k.

Every half back in the comp is sitting back watching this circus and rubbing their hands together. Surely they're all thinking that their $$ are all going to increase as well. HB has traditionally been a position we have lacked in so why not offer a little more to be competitive. Either that or tell him to piss off and start focussing on players like Hodgkinson or Maloney.

It does play a part but 450k extra, if true, is a massive amount of dosh. It often takes more money to drag a player away from his current club though. It's possible that if Manly's offer was only 100-150k less he'd stay there. So it's not always just about money.

Also, let's not forget he's already won a premiership, played Origin and represented Australia (both of which he will continue to do regardless of which club he plays for given he's younger than Thurston and Cronk). He's achieved quite a bit already so he may be more inclined to follow the money compared to players who haven't had the same success.

This DCE crap has dragged on for so long (well, not really, but it FEELS like it's dragged on forever) that I'll be like *meh* if we don't get him.

... But I did predict back at end of last season that we'd sign Barba and DCE, I've got a fortune teller future if I get this right. :glasses-cool:

Oh of course... but i'm very tired of Flanno's comments in regard to high profile player acquisitions and not being the highest bidder and hoping that they want to come to Cronulla because we are such an awesome club with a great bunch of guys who all have dinner together around a round table and sing merry tunes.

Obviously you can't sign everyone... and people would point to our high profile signatures of late being 'decent'. Which i think is a huge furphy. All of our high profile talent recently aside from Luke Lewis has been players on the outer or rebound.

There's only one way to get the best players. Stump up the coin.

If you stump up too much coin the rest of the team will be absolute poo on a stick and the acquisition will be completely pointless.

We can buy the halfback with the best pass or kick in the game, but if someone like Ben Pomeroy is on the end of it we're never going to score anyway.

Not at all you fool.

Im sorry if you are upset im not as confident. **** happens.

Lol someone challenges you and you resort to name calling. Very good.
Iam not upset at all, you blokes just make me laugh when you come on here with your hot inside info which in reality is no different to what anyone else knows. Let me guess, someone known in the CSSC heard from a another person that DCE was really impressed with our pitch and will seriously consider either us or staying at Manly.

Why dont you share what exactly you know. What's the big deal. It's hardly gospel, it's all speculation just like in the media.

Which is pretty much what's going to happen to the Gold Coast.

That's because we stump up coin in the wrong areas.

Luke Lewis for example was not the type of player we needed.

A quality halfback we badly need to stump up the coin for. If people can't see this... all you have to do is look to our abysmal kicking game this season.

Complain when another Robson 40/20 attempt goes 15 metres about whether or not we should stump up the coin.

I agree with what you are saying but the media don't know what he's been offered by anyone. It's all speculation and dramatised and basically bull****. How would they know our offer is 2.5 over three years. We probably arnt the highest but who knows what the figures are.

I think that's a bit of Harry Hindsight there, SS. I remember pretty much everyone was stoked with his signing at the time, me included.

Oh i agree with you in relation the media reported figures.

But you have it from the horses mouth (Flanno) that our offer isn't the best, which means you are hoping, that a quality player is going to leave his club and join a club who has had, much less success and much more negative media attention for a less than best deal.

Dreaming.

From a quality player point of view, everyone was stoked. Great, we got another good rep player.

But it was the wrong piece in the puzzle and this is being proven.

We can't help it if a team like GC want to **** up their roster though, that's their decision.

Hang on, so you are stating that just because there is no quality half available.. that you should go out and sign a high quality back rower just because they are available?

From recollection we extended Robson because there was no one of quality that they could get or were interested in. Forward planning, which is great.

Problem is, one could argue that by making purchases in other areas that may not necessarily have been required, they've left themselves short in this case.

There are players you spend big on and build your club around.

You tell me who we are currently building our club around?

Fifita/Lewis?
