From my understanding Keogh said that we'll chase DCE but we won't be offering anything like the amounts mentioned.

Cronulla Sharks chairman Damian Keogh said media reports were untrue that the club would offer $1 million a season for Manly halfback Daly Cherry-Evans, off contract at the end of 2015.

‘‘That figure is a total fabrication,’’ Damian Keogh said.

‘‘Like all quality players that come onto the open market, we look at them.’’

Cherry-Evans is free to discuss his options with rivals clubs but he will not be rushed into any decision.

Manly are desperate to keep Cherry-Evans and teammate Keiran Foran as both are off-contract at the same time.

The Sea Eagles believe they can repel many rival club offers and keep them.

The Sharks want a star No.7 in the ranks to pair with Ben Barba.

Keogh said the Sharks were close to naming their new group chief executive.

Why all the negativity against robbo. I think he has been a rock for us. I'd be interested in the stats but the Sharks performed better when he was in the 7 and I think he made carney look good most of the time...

Finally, someone who understands rugby league.

Yeah.

His long kicking game sucks, but he isn't half as bad as this forum would have you believe.

There are parts of Robson's game that is as good as any half like tackling, I think most on here want our halves to be attack minded, have x factor about them & are able to kick 40/20's, Robson is judged on not being able to do that, hence the flak.

Barba has x factor about him, plays what he see's in front of him but I cant say I have ever seen him kick a 40/20, he's played mostly fullback so the jury's still out whether he has a boot for 40/20's or not, from a defence point of view he will be starting the year in 6 so lets see how he aims up in that department, I would assume it wont be any worse than what Todd dished up in defence in 2014.

Lets boil it down - a half is there to win you games. It is their job. They are to execute the game plan the coach puts out and take advantage of opportunities in the game.

The best halves in the game last year won games for their teams provided try and linebreak assists and kicking metres.

Robson last year was the main play maker - he touched the ball more then he has throughout his career so we can really get a good judge on the type of player he is.

His stats were -

28th for Try Assists
39th for Line Break Assists
16th for Kick Metres
182nd for tackles made
269th for Tackle busts
166th for offloads
171st for Linebreaks
306th for Run Metres
286th for Runs
123rd for Tries
137th for total points

So he is without a doubt not the worst player in the comp but he is close to the worst halfback in the game. He is rank average and in any other side would be playing reserve grade.

Why is this in the rumour mill? I believe it more like a fact.

This being a forum, i feel okay with respectfully disagreeing with you. I don't believe the number 7 is there to win you games in the way you suggest, especially as most teams split their halves and have them run separate sides of the field. Ican't believe I'm saying this, but my ideal number 7 was pretty much represented by the 2014 model Mitchell Pearce. The 7's job should be to organise the teams attack by identifying the best attacking opportunity at at given time. Whether that's a long kick for good field position, short side raid, run on the 5th or a dribble into the in goal for a repeat set.

I think robbos problem was he needed to organise too much of the play. This season, Ennis will take over running the general play so the halves can get the attack ready. and there's plenty of talent to score points,it's just a matter of getting better opportunities. It's going to be a very different team this year, more controlled and primed, with or without Robbo.

You disagree but then say your ideal number 7 is a bloke who is 100 times better then Robson?

Some of Pearce's stats were
9th for Try Assists
3rd for Linebreak Assists
7th for kick metres
50th for Linebreaks
50th for tries

Saying halves are not there to win games is not correct. Halves lead all the attacking stats they setup the tries they kick for field position it is what they are there for splitting them up to different sides of the fields does not change that.

The top ten try assists - or you know the things that win you the games - 7 are playmakers 3 are fullbacks. Of the 7, 5 were halfbacks.
