From the other forum:
It looks like we missed signing 21 year old Parra Centre Jacob Loko over a $20,000 shortfall.
Perhaps was not meant to be, he has had quite a few past injuries ( then again Gagan has had a few too).
At least we are still in the market searching for a Centre

Bloke just threw his career away IMO. Obviously took a Carrot. Will work in the short term but he will suffer from this and never have a chance in the NRL now.

Nesi is just another example of the problem that exists in the club at the moment with the coaching regime in regard to giving youngsters a go instead of signing 30 year old players.
I said from the start that signing Grothe was an absolute dumb move. I dont care if he plays great h'es just in the way of obviously talented youngsters like this bloke getting a go.

How will he never have a chance in the NRL? If he performs in superleague then he will have a great opportunity to come back and play NRL. As opposed to playing U20's or NSW Cup with us, never getting a go under Flanno and probably ending up on the scrape heat.

Smart move by the kid.

Jury is out on Grothe.
IF he rampages in attack and defends satisfactory for the entire 2014 , then at last we'll have signed a damaging winger that sends fear in his opposite number.
I just hope he, Luetelle,(wrong spelling probably) Ashford and Gagan play out of their skins.
I still feel our recruitment has been way above average, the last couple of years.
No doubt a Re-build will be required in the near future and deserving youngin's will be sought to enhance the crew we have now.

Seeing out his 20s and shopping around the nrl clubs would be a better way to get the foot in the door.
Gotta be pretty special to get brought over from the super league.

Also from other forum.. not my words
James Roberts suffered a broken ankle today. Did a similar injury last pre-season too. Would've loved to have seen him in our colours, but seems to be a bit injury prone, the poor kid.

I can't think of one player who has come back a better player from the English Super League then when he left. The kid obviously hasn't got the confidence that he's going to make it.

Special like Tony Gigot and Daniel Holdsworth??

How many under 20's do you think actually progress through to the NRL? It's only something like 30%. And Nesi was at a club who aren't giving young players much of a go at the moment. Now he has a contract playing in a premier competition with a better chance of getting noticed. Like I said, smart move.

Daniel Holdsworth……..end of his career, probably wont get a start in firsts without there being an injury. Gigot is no different, is not part of any first grade plans.

What im saying is, going over and playing in an inferior competition is not the way to progress through the ranks. Sounds to me like a bloke who wanted the money. He was in the under20s, even though we dont put alot of young blokes into firsts, most clubs arent either. Only the star kids get a run.

No under 20s should have a problem with not getting a run in firsts. Bryce Gibbs could score hat tricks in that competition. As far as Im concerned, if he was good enough for the NRL, he woulda either stayed or another NRL club woulda picked him up.

Im sick of this 'Flanno doesnt give them a run ****'. We've had not that many great juniors be robbed of a chance. Peachey had some chances, yes he has left, but still he got a few runs in, due to injury maybe, but when you have plenty of experience in his positions its hard to put him in. Chad got enough chances. Mills sounds like a whiney little bitch, fact is he played enough games to show he wasnt ready IMO. Frizzel? Played 1sts for us before he left. Hasnt set the world on fire…………

Maybe its time for some of these young guys to shut up and work on their game more. Prove you belong and when you get a chance, take it with both hands. Dont carry on like a little bitch if you dont get picked or if you arent first choice. Fact is you probably arent good enough

You make some reasonable points, don't agree with all. Your wrong on one thing. Playing and doing well in the English super league, inferior competition or not can still a better way to get noticed than trying to battle your way through the u20's and NSW cup.

Obviously there is an emphasis on the kids to knuckle down and show their worth but there is also an emphasis on the club and coaches to invest in this youth, develop them and give them a proper go. Flanno doesn't do that and everyone knows it, including the kids.

The re-signing of Morris and the signing of Grothe are perfect examples of the coach preferring to sign old 30 something players instead of giving these spots to talented kids. If Lichea was at several other clubs he would already be the top two hooker yet he faces another year behind Morris and Degois. Same thing happened to Peachey. I guarantee you'll be jumping up and down if Lichea decides to leave too.

I don't think every young player has unwavering aspirations to play in the NRL or to play for a particular team. I think it's us fans who project that notion and it's for many young players a far way from the truth.

I'd imagine it's just a fun job doing something that they're good at for many... something to do whilst you make up your mind what you want to be.

I can see where a lot of blokes would think that they're only going to be doing it for 4 years - might as well go where the money is best. If that be playing in England, then so be it.

Bit of a well paid holiday... might even get to travel around Europe a bit... might meet some cool French chicks... I'm in!

Thats true, but if 19 year olds now think they are ready and dont get a go they get their back up n go elsewhere.
