We're nothing like Souths were. We came last this year because of 1. A freak injury toll 2. Inadequate coaching/football staffing and 3. Monumental off field distractions.

It wasn't because the Club is on its knees financially or because the roster is crap. Carney is the only significant loss from a roster that was top 6 in 2013.He's a big loss and the squad is ageing but some young talent has come though and there's plenty of cap space to play with for next year and beyond.

I think a lot of people are whipping themselves in to a frenzy because we haven't signed anyone for a while. I doubt we will sign anyone expensive without there being a Head Coach to make the call. That's the reality.

But the upside is that there's a lot of movement of contracted players this year and Flano/Mooney have a track record of getting handy ones.

I remember when Jon Green and Mark Taufua seemed to be were our main signings in 2011. Then we signed De Gois, Todd et al.

I think its more likely than not that we'll get someone of top 17 standard before next year.

My thoughts exactly. Really can't understand all the doom & gloom setting in, and a comparison to Souths in the early 00's is so far off the mark its not funny.

Can anyone post it? I never get the emails.

Here mate:

Thankyou and farewell message from Steve Noyce said:
Dear valued Sponsors and Members

As you are aware, the Board have made my role redundant and sadly I will be finishing up today.
Prior to leaving I wanted to again extend my genuine thanks to each of you for your amazing support, passion, commitment and loyalty during my time at the Club. I am very confident that your show of solidarity will play a HUGE role in the success I see for 2015 and beyond.
A man I respect and admire once said to me about footy clubs (and perhaps life in general) “Nothing is as good as it seems and nothing is as bad as it seems”. I am sure that many people outside the Sharks family, and possibly some inside the family, currently have a “bad” view of the Club.

I am very pleased to tell you that there are plenty of things here to be excited and confident about.
Hopefully, the NRL will shortly approve Shane Flanagan’s return as Head Coach. This will allow him to appoint an Assistant Coach to join James Shepherd in our coaching ranks.
I have previously mentioned the leadership and professionalism that comes with Michael Ennis joining the Sharks. Over the last few weeks I have witnessed this first hand with Michael coming in every day since the Grand Final to have treatment from our physio on his injured leg. Over the next couple of weeks there will be some wonderful player signing news which will further enhance our strong existing squad.

Andrew Gray our new Physical Performance Manager has completed his staffing selection process and added;
• Rob Leslie Strength & Power Coach (ex Dragons)
• Efram Bunguric Head Physio (ex Wanderers)
• Aaron Scully Asst Strength & Conditioning Coach (ex Waratahs)
• They join existing staff Mark Noakes and Dean Smith.
In my last letter I spoke about our dreams/plans to create a new player rec room, build new lockers and purchase new gym equipment- WOW!!!! All these things have come to fruition and look sensational. Many, many thanks to those people who have donated money to assist us make these important changes happen. below is a picture of the new lockers (Shark Grey with Shark Blue walls). It isn’t too late to put your name on a player locker. Just contact Amy at the Sharks Football office. Some of our existing players have dropped in to meet the new staff and have been blown away by the up-grades – Chris Heighington was saying he can’t wait to use the new Watt Bikes – not!! Congratulations also to Chris and his beautiful wife Sonya who eloped during their break away from training.

In the very important area of Junior Development we have booked two of our staff into the up-coming seminar at the AIS “World Class to World Best”. We need to be looking at best practice to ensure we provide every opportunity to our young players for them to develop into full-time, professional NRL players for the Sharks.
The Club and I are very lucky to have an extremely dedicated, passionate, hard- working and professional “off field” team. I am proud of their efforts during my time at the Club and thank them for their support and the great outcomes they have achieved in challenging circumstances.

Adversity and challenging circumstances tend to galvanise groups of people and this is very much the case with our playing squad. They are very tight, supportive of the Club and love pulling on a Black, White and Blue Sharks jersey.
I also witness first- hand the enormous amount of community work they undertake and it has never been a problem to contact any of the playing group to visit sick kids, school’s etc. Like all families, we have our differences of opinions and there have been times when it has been necessary to discipline players, but I really believe we do have a wonderful group of players and I extend my thanks to them for their support and assistance. I am sure that Shane and his staff will create new professional requirements and standards for the squad next year and I have no doubt the players will take these opportunities with both hands.

In closing, I wanted to share a commitment I made at the end of year Monty Porter presentation night. I quoted a statistic that 68% of teams who win the wooden spoon make the semis next year and I guaranteed that this percentage will go up next year as the team will definitely make the top 8. Again, I am confident to stand by that prediction.
Best wishes to you all and much success to the Club in the years ahead.

PS: Membership renewals will be out November 10 and I would encourage you to once again throw your support behind the Sharks and to renew for the upcoming season. Despite a tough year in 2014 we finished third on the NRL membership growth race in a fantastic show of your support, setting the bar extremely high. So why not get a friend to join as well (at the end of the 2015 season they will thank you for getting them on board) and get behind the Sharks again in 2015.

need to be a member bro ;)

Then why did I get it? Found out about a month ago when enquiring about where my member's pack was that I was never actually a member for 2014 and had infact only purchased a member's jersey (renewed online and buggered it up I suppose).

Why no one thought it a little strange this bloke whose been a member since 2008 only got a jersey this year and didn't nudge me for a membership is something to be concerned about.

Have received all member emails and even voted on the jersey thing that never went anywhere. Shambles.

Words fail me with this club. I'll be very interested if they can actually get it right next season.

Mate I was blown away with it. Words failed me too and I just thanked the girl for the info. Couldn't be arsed to even bother questioning the absurdity of it all.

Funny that. I renewed my membership on line. I had no problems following the sequence and filling in boxes.

I know Jess and the other membership girls and they are tops. Hard working and dedicated. Unfortunately they have to deal with a membership of mixed intellect.

I'm happy to concede I must of buggered something up during my renewal - already did I thought. Perhaps you missed it. I could of called it a deliberate mistake to cover up but I'm not that way inclined.

If I'm cold calling people and driving membership though and some bloke whose been buying membership since '08 and coupling it with a member's jersey every year since its introduction all of a sudden gets a jersey and no membership, I'd at least enquire as to why he ditched his membership commitment.

Thanks for conceding your error. But I think to bag out young girls for doing their job under difficult circumstances is uncalled for. Get into the the Senior managment by all means but don't blame workers on the floor for a cock up by you and a lack of procedure by the club management.

The club now has some new people in marketing and membership and I know one of these blokes very well. They are competent and skilled at what they do, but it does take time to change some rusted on procedures that have not changed in years.
