after thinking about it i wouldn't care if we signed Barba to be honest. We need something new simple as that. He played with Ennis for a few seasons at the dogs, inspired him there. Maybe he can help inspire him here.

FROM THE OTHER FORUM , makes sense to me.

regardless of this philosophy, the facts are, we need something in the halves for 2015.

This is where I would be buying Ben Barba and taking full freight of his Broncos contract.
My reasons for Barba are:

- He is still on his Bulldogs contract. Remember the Bulldogs made sure that he didn't sign for Brisbane for more money and only went for family reasons. So he would be on or around the 400-500k mark. Smart money.

- He is the best 5/8 to have played in the under 20's. Anyone who watched him in his time at the Dogs juniors could see this. His Dally M year was not all about kick returns and kick return meters, it was about support play and second phase play, which is what a 5/8 can do.
We have some great forwards who can off load and that is what Ben has made a career of.
He only moved to fullback so Des could accomodate him, and if I am honest, I thought he was starting to look comfortable again in the number 6 jumper.

- He is lived in the area. There is a small leg up if ever there was one.

I am serious when I suggest him. If it means Brown goes to the bench or NSW cup to learn to play half back, so be it.
One thing we lacked consistently in the halves is creativity and support play, and he is as off the cuff as it comes.

The only area that might be of concern is a long kicking game, but to be honest, we haven't had a good one for a while, even with Carney, and if we get him soon he can have an off season to hit the ball as sweet as he can.

The no dick heads policy can fly out the window, the majority of the board members are dick heads anyway.

The Wing:glasses-cool:

If they are trying to retain Merrin and Morris they will probably need to shed more than just Farrell and Hunt.

Ha ha

They really do need forwards at the moment so keeping Merrin definitely makes sense. Nightingale is a freak though, be a big loss for them

If he is only allowed 4-500k there will sadly be a lot more appealing clubs that will find a way to make room for him..

I thought Barba started looking ok at 5/8 for the Broncos, so I wouldn't complain if we signed him.

If Albert Kelly could behave and remain uninjured I'd prefer him over Barba in the halves.

AMEN, I was against carney originally, what he is rumoured to have had to sign for superleague (a bond) we should apply to Barba, softens the behaviour.

who though?

wouldnt be the titans as they are cap heavy so unless they offload a player or 2 they wont get him? cowboys re-signed lui and have morgan, thompson and they have a good junior half as well

most other teams would need to shift a player to accomodate him

Barba played the first half the year with a st*ffed ankle . Showed good glimpses of his ability later in the year .
Every team would love to have a fully committed and well behaving Albert Kelly as a half , 5/8 .
I too would probably go the later if commited , but beggars can't be choosers

Luke Lewis still has 2 years to run then will likely retire
Heighno has a year to go im pretty sure, will likely retire
Leutele signed an extension last season i think for another 2 years?

Most off season recruitment discussions mention the Sharks have money to burn with players like Beau, Todd, Morris, Gibbs, etc all no longer at the club. This is a lot of cap space and a lot of money to buy players. When it comes to money, we could be front runners for most players looking for a club shift. On appeal though, not so much. Money talks

under rated or under achieving?

He is ****ing huge mate, and has played like a powderpuff for most of the year. Was brutal in the 9's and some of his huge runs last year did amazing things for our side. He had moments where he was a better prop than Fifita in 2013. 2014 though he got suspended twice, had a low work rate and was just generally ****. He looks like a race horse and could be anything. And all his downfalls come down to attitude

I admit this year may not have been his best year, even I was a bit dissapointed with him this year, I will admit that but generally speaking he can do good things, he is massive for us when he is at his best.

but we cant have him at his best for 1 game per year. He can go very well i agree. But we had a year where all our senior players were injured. He could have been a real leader, but he got showed up by rookies.

I hope we leave nu in the squad and preferably starting. I'd take nu as the starting half over Robson. He did enough to Hold a spot. I don't want to see him sent back, he should be learning on the job.

Taga was being discussed at length in another thread. The main consensus was that he can be brilliant but not enough. Yes, he is rumoured to want out and if we have cover then I wouldn't lose sleep over him going.

He could be sensational if he really put his mind to it.
