Fair enough.

It depends what your team needs. If I was building a squad and already had a stock-standard organising half I'd choose Brooks.

If I was building a squad and already had a Nicho Hynes, I'd choose Hastings.
I obviously totally disagre

Hastings.

Fast between the ears and slow of foot. Possibly slower when he returns from injury.

Is on $500k at the moment. Will probably want that and long years

He's not needed

It's funny, I don't remember anyone mentioning his lack of pace until the Tigers lately started getting bitchy as they try to force him out the door

Tigers fans would rather a Hastings Doueihi halves pairing. They even preferred Madden and Hastings pairing when Doueihi and Brooks were out, which looked good. Brooks hasn't got it in him anymore, he lacks confidence and that's why his decision making and organising isn't great or consistent. I agree needs to be in a more structured or stronger system to find himself again. Hastings also had Brooks find a bit of form and confidence when they were paired. Out of Doueihi, Hastings and Brooks, Brooks is the one i wouldn't want at sharks, and that's who we were rumored to have had interest in 👎🏿

Any signing of Klem should come with the requirement he shave his head, which will instantly make him play more aggressively. But yes he'd be coming as more of a workhorse than an out and out Enforcer.
I'd probably rather have a bunch of guys who play aggressive than one absolute liability though and I think Klem can contribute to that.

You're more signing him for his tremendous workload
Per Fox Stats averages (rankings are all players unless otherwise noted) Klem makes
50th most tackles in NRL (14th for props) with 18th best efficiency overall
Coupled with 16th highest run meters (3rd for props)

Defensively we have Toby (54th), Dale (68), BHU (244) and Hunt (262) who are ranked 122, 139, 168 and 173 efficiency collectively.
Kaufusi is 179 and 36 (good efficiency!)

For average meters we have Toby (135th), Dale (192), Hunt (226) and BHU (245) with Kaufusi (212) incoming.

Klem averages 61 mins a game with Rudolf 51, Dale 48, BHU 33, Hunt 29 & Kaufusi 35.
We have quite a few guys Fitz seems to like using for fairly restricted minutes when he can.

So he joins Toby and Dale as a good tackler but with standout efficiency (which Fitz would love) meanwhile he makes a tonne more meters than any of our current guys, beating Toby 146 to 101. He close to doubles the rest.

I'm not all in on Klem or anything I'm just joining the recurring convo.
I'd be surprised if it happened, but I think it'd be good.
I think our position is strong enough we won't feel pressured to overpay anyone.
Meters aren’t all they’re stacked up to be as a stat though. It depends how a team plays. At another club with different systems his numbers may be lower.

Former Sharks pre-season legend Zac Cini apparently signing 2 year deal with Parra. Dev list 2023, top 30 in 2024.

why would we be looking at Brooks? that makes not that much sense. we have other cheaper options that are already in our system if Moylan is moved on

Brooks had an eternity to do something for that Tigers squad - Hastings comes in and straight away they look a million times better. I know who I would prefer

Brooks isn't without ability, but he just needs so many things to align on the day to perform, the blokes a bit of a myth, there is no way he will ever live up to that early hype/promise even if he can be solid in the right setup. Tigers ruined him but it's also possible he was just never that good beyond a couple standout seasons but even Tim Smith had one of those

Having said all that I don't think it would be a disaster if he replaced Moylan down the road, Moylan refound his confidence, maybe Brooks can too but you just cannot pay Brooks anywhere near what he is on now

Are the many things he needs to align just a coach with a decent attacking game plan?

Because's he had that for one year of his career with Ivan Cleary and nearly won a Dally M with a hideous squad around him.

I'm by no means saying we should sign him, especially with his asking price but I still think he's far from a lost cause.

Again another sign that re-signing Moylan was a stupid move.

We need a half not a 6
