We have jagged two players from QCup and are looking for a Forward for the first grade side.
The players we wanted haven't wanted us by the sounds of things.

Q:
Thought with Fitz we’d be an attractive option but I suppose if we aren’t willing to pay overs or maybe they aren’t guaranteed a starting spot it’s less attractive?

Are these QLD cup players depth like Berrel is or potential starters?

GUN
Fitz is still a rookie Coach. He has a "name" but he also only has 26 first grade games to his name.
If and when we make a serious run at the premiership we will get players at value but until then, guys like Joe Ofahengaue and Thomas Flegler will want above the market rates.

No idea about the QCup players. One is a centre and one is a versatile forward is all I received.

Flegler is already on overs at Brissy, and Joe is kidding himself if he wanted overs to leave the wooden spooners. Neither are in strong negotiating positions. I do understand the Fitz is a rookie line though, he did well, but hopefully next year he really announces himself and we can hold our own against the best.

Agreed. Think flegler is on like 700k next season or something.

I think if we make the top 4 again next year then that will solidify fitz’s position as a genuine coach who knows wtf he is doing. Time will tell but I’m truly confident fitz would have learnt a lot from this year and next year we will be in a better position than this year.

Alright @burgess1978 who are the best uncontracted QCup centre and ‘versatile forward’
Could be the Laybutt brothers (Blackhawks). Zac is a gun 20yo centre who played some Q Cup and captained their comp-winning Colts team. Kyle is much older. Was originally a half and played a couple of games for the Cowboys. He's a 9/13 these days and even played a few games at prop in a Cotter-like role. Could be a case of "you can sign him, but give his brother a T&T deal so he can move down there with him".

Solomona Faataape from the Tigers is good, and young. He could be contracted to the Storm though. I can't think of any top centres who aren't older guys or on NRL contracts. Could also be someone from Colts...

As for forwards, one good young versatile forward is Lochlyn Sheldon (Burleigh). Was only a first year player in Q Cup but showed a lot of improvement and is a goer. Reuben Porter (Tweed) is really good, but older (will be 26 at the start of next season).

I'm really just guessing though...

Scott Galeano is name I heard but that was a while back

dont know if it was a troll or legit
Thought of him, but he mostly played wing this year I think. Can play centre though, so he'd fit the bill.

We have a set amount of money left over for a forward and we are targeting players we feel are of that ilk and value. If they think they are worth more, then Fitz doesn't stay at the table long and Mooney has left before he has.

I think we should save some money for after the World Cup. See if we can find a couple of diamonds in the rough from a few of the smaller nations playing. I’m sure there will 1 or 2 success stories there and I’d like us to be ready to sign one of them.

When are we allowed to talk to Nathan Brown from the Eels? Is it from November? He is signed @ Eels till 2023 but has issues with BA apparently and/or vice versa. It's ridiculous a player like him he has been trotting out in reggies but I think he has also come back from an ankle injury or something.

Just read an article that Parra gave him permission to talk with other clubs anyway - not in their future plans

He would tick alot of boxes of what we want from a Sharks forward. Hard working, impactful and has fire in the belly. Seen him play extended minutes as well. Pretty hasty for a forward and can cover lock and prop - can take over the Tolman roll but has much more impact with the ball. Heck you could start him with Rudolf and then bring the big units on from the bench.

Brown might be considered on the smaller side but he has no problem with go forward and Tolman wasn't a big bloke

Was one of the Eels best players previously and unless his issue is with coaches without hair he would be exceptional under the Fitz - just the type of player we need IMO
