Shows should be restricted to ex footballers IMO
How the likes of Hooper and Buzz are on tv I have no idea.

It's obscene the NRL journalism scene generates at least 50% of it's own content, some weeks more if not much else going on.

Seems like the average rugby league story goes...

  • Something happens (or is rumoured to have happened)
  • Media write an article
  • Media talk about their own article on a show
  • Media write an article quoting themselves/each other talking about it on show
  • Media write a follow up article where the player is forced to deny it or coach responds or whatever because it has gathered so much (self generated) momentum
  • Potentially good for another couple of articles as they refute the response or respond to the response with their own opinion
You could watch a panel show and read 5 articles about something and have about 1% more information by the end of it.
It is a sad state. Blokes like Buzz used to be journalists. I think I'd rather see the return of a proper journo than just having ex-players involved, as they're often the worst of them - out of touch with the clubs so they get no real news and just trying to keep up with the need for headlines.

Geez a few of them are taking the Gus/Barrett situation personally. I saw one clip last night where I think it was Anasta just giving it to him in a pretty spiteful way

Sure but if you're just gunna have dumb talk on the shows it may as well be different dumb talk to the print. Not some weird circle jerk where the same handful of people do most of both (outside of the game day analysts).

At least with the footballers you'd get more interesting/different input and could get more analysis. Make them into football shows not news shows about football but also the news is made up and the points don't matter.
Maybe have one 'media' personality hosting or providing a different POV.

I don't know if I'd be more interested in a random fairly high level ex-footballer chatting through his opinions with some peers but I certainly wouldn't be any less interested than a program where Buzz tells me what was in his article the day before to give himself quotes for an updated version for tomorrow.

It would at least be nice to have the choice of those style shows to watch!
I feel like my choices are:
Shouty blokes who get turned on by spicy headlines. Truth not required.
Bogan blokes who think they're the next The Footy Show (and think that's a good thing)
Bored looking 'legends' chalking off another hour of their salaried work week with their tips for the next round and 'analysis'.
Bloke in a Bar.

Guys like Elliott and Sterlo have been quetly shuffled out of the media effectively. People who love the game are just a lot less than those who love the drama I suppose.

The problem on Fox is the 'journos' want to be the star ofs the show and that's just bullshit.

I don't mind having a half decent journo on a footy show, but just one and they're there to supplement the ex-players, not dominant the show.

They seem to think they are as important as the footy players.
Until one of them does something wrong and then it's private and not relevant.

Apparently the doggies told like 10 of their players to look elsewhere (TPJ included) hence the sht performance on the weekend.. Naden now going to tigers seems like that rumour is true
