IMO, CHT is worth looking at providing he’d be ok on price, worse case, he offers utility value, is better than a ok defender as well, as a bonus, he offers a left foot kicking option.
In saying that, CT offers all of the above minus the kicking, it really depends on if Fitz likes him or where he see’s him fitting in for us, I suppose if he wasn’t seen as a legit halves partner for Nicho it’s not worth pursuing him.
I think as a half CHT has a much higher ceiling than Tracey, if that is who your CT is.
I'd be pretty comfortable with signing CHT as competition for Trindall if we got priced out of Moylan.
While breaking onto the scene with a scorpion kick (although not in NRL) pushed a lot of people to think otherwise apparently one of CHTs strengths is actually his organising and directing game. I'm not sure Tracey has much of this element in his game.
Also has struggled to nail down a spot in first grade (still played 38 games) at now 23 years old but a lot of the prototype control halfbacks seem to struggle in their early 20s.
Fogarty didn't debut until 24, neither did Clune (not that he is a great example although has been playing hurt).
Despite showing some good early signs Flanagan* has bumped around, he's now 24 later this year.
Even the likes of DCE and Reynolds I think debuted in year they turn 22 - amongst the best at this role and not 'teen prodigy' NRL players.
A current similar comparison to CHT is O'Sullivan, 24 later this year.
Of course many examples also of guys who cracked a solid start in the NRL more in the 18-21 range.
I do still also like that Hynes wants the responsibility and I still think he can do the job as the 7, so I'd also be interested in someone like Drinkwater if we could get him (given how good he's now going unless they drop him again will be hard).
*The fact Flanagan looked okay at Roosters but they desperately wanted to offload him then he struggled at Dogs makes you wonder how Sam Walker would go on a different team.
