A week ago I would’ve said they could have him. Now after his performance on Saturday and reports Nicho has been super impressed with him, I’m inclined to wait a few rounds before passing judgement.

It's easy to forget he's only just turned 24.

“The move of Katoa to the Dolphins has infuriated the Panthers, who have asked the question "why bother?" training youngsters.”

Retain him if you want him so bad
Fair enough they're angry, they've never signed a player in their history that hasn't been a local junior.

I can see both sides to that issue. Maybe a transfer fee of some kind might be a bit fairer, we don’t want to completely take away the motivation for clubs to continue to focus on developing their junior base, but we also dont want to put up to many barriers for a kid like Katoa to take an opportunity to play regular first grade at another club when he’s blocked from doing so at his current club, I mean he’s not going to displace Cleary or Luai this year is he?

Maybe the balance between a players best interests and whats fair for the club developing the talent is slightly off at the moment.

While players will always be poached, the Panthers can't seriously look at their team and recent success and tell us there's no benefit to developing your own players.

Is it fair that players would rather live in Bondi than Penrith? No. But good luck competing with the Roosters if you're not developing your own players.

Current 6th choice half at Penrith.
Depending how dolphins shape up he could be more like 3 there

I’m sure some other clubs would be happy to take over the penrith nursery if they don’t see any value

You don't have to live in Penrith.

How many non-Sharks players live in the Shire?

I think they should shows some backbone, follow through and stop developing juniors. It really is a waste of time for them... It's only lead to one team dominating for a couple of years so far
