I see where you blokes are coming from but how many props have ever played the game like fifita ?
I agree he is something special and he deserves big money due to that. IMO it would be alot easier to rebuild from losing him to losing Carney though. That is the thing that makes me prefer a shorter term deal. He may not cost us Carney if we sign him for five years but it may cost us at an opportunity at someone similar to him.

I seem to remember people on this forum in 2011 saying they would pay 500 k a season to retain Snowden.

If that's the case, surely Fifita is worth 650.

at the time, snowden was a 500k prop, and was arguably the best prop in the game.

fifita is the best prop in the game, needs 600k

in 5 years time, 600k will be cheap. he is just as important to the team as Carney. no problem with a 5 year deal

Disagree re his importance compared to Carney. I understand he was our highest tryscorer last year but that says a fair bit about the state of our outside backs more than anything.

He's important but not as much as Carney.

5 years time----

Carney at end of contract
Wades newest contract already expired or extended
Gal, Lewis, Toupo all retired
But 1 big thing to consider........in a few years our NRL licence is expired. Needing renewal.
We need to ensure good on field showings, making the finals more often then not. We cant be the worst team on average in Sydney. We need to cement our place in the NRL.
Whether Fifita plays like 2013 again or not if Burgess leaves, Sonny Bill leaving, Benji gone, Fifita could become a new face of the game. Roosters and Souths got ridiculous amounts of exposure and just general kiss assing from channel 9. Fifita has that x factor, and will be a household name. He is as big a asset to the Sharks as Carney is

For me thinking on the importance of Carney vs Fifita I think of Brisbane and Webcke and Locky - Locky got the headlines but without Webcke he wouldnt of had the platform to work from. So equally important.

Same as Fifita and Carney. Fifita last year was providing explosive runs (no toliet humor please) and quick play the balls giving Carney time,

Put it this way, if you could only sign one of Carney or Fifita for the same coin, who would you sign? The answer is Carney 100% of the time. We have a decent forward pack even without Fifita, carney would still be a star without him.

Fifita wasnt providing alot of quick play the balls. Imo thats where he had a downside he'd make a great run then try to milk a penalty. Alot of opportunity lost when u do that

Yes but its not a vaild point because we have Carney. The point is how much do you spend to keep Fifita given he is probably our second biggest star/performer. He has the skills of Dave Taylor with the motor of Gallen, we need more then just Carney for that weekend in October.

One would assume we would be replacing players as we lose them though, this time 2 years ago Fifita, gibbs, heighno & Lewis had not even played a game for cronulla.

I do understand where you are coming from though....

yes but with who?

Why not carry the fifita man along? So basically in the next 3 years not 1 of our current pack will be here? Club has a 5 year plan in the books with the development, it can get a 5 year plan going on the field too.

Sign Fifita, Sign Wade up long term. Sopoaga, Roqica etc too.
