Ew. Give me Trindall and Metcalf over Flanno any day.

Spoilt for choice...

A halfback who isn't a halfback
A halfback who can kick, pass and organise but can't run or defend
A halfback who can kick, pass and run, but can't organise or defend

Can I phone a friend?

Sounds like some could do with Flanno Jnr Back? Why not, swallow the pride and get on with it. You know it will be so.
I'd take him back as depth, on depth money for a few first grade games next year if needed. That might even be his best option right now.

Not saying I don’t get the arguments but it is interesting how hard quite a few people are pushing to have Connor Tracey either not starting or not in side at all. Equal 11th top scorer in the NRL last season playing a bunch of different positions he wasn’t really familiar with is actually pretty impressive.
Per average Katoa edges him but Tracey, Ronnie and Kennedy all 0.6 per game which is still top 50.

Yes Metcalf looks exciting but Connor is actually a legit NRL try scorer (not elite obviously, but solid).

(Were a few games he moved around but off listed starting role) Scored 8 tries in 9 games at centre, 5 in 9 games on the wing and 1 in 3 games at 5/8.
Matt Burton in one of the best teams scored 11 in 17 games at centre, Olam scored 12 in 24 in an attacking monster of a Storm team.
Elite centre Manu 3 in 15. Gagai being fed by Walker 9 in 19.

Not even specifically trying to argue him as a centre here, just a bit easier to compare positionally.

I know he is an awkward kind of bloke to find a spot for, and I am happy for him to remain as 5th choice half but I think he either needs to be a starting centre (or winger of Ronnie can convert well*) or our 14 who will play in the backline probably more weeks than he doesn't due to injuries.

I think his consistent scoring made a solid case for him to be in the 17.

*Ronnie's best runs are with a charge up (kick return), his 1 off the rucks are inconsistent as not uncommon he gets held upright too much. I'm not personally sold he would be better off converting to centre. I think it would work better to keep him wing and have Tracey focus on centre.

Not hungry die that Flanju bait right now thanks

Good analysis. I like Connor's attitude. He gives it his all every time. Combine that with demonstrated skills and you have to find a spot in the 17 for him. Maybe centre is his go, I think I see similarities between him and Nicho. They both are physically good and bust their asses every time.

Yes, good info Bort. I don't mind Connor at centre or wing but you just get the feeling we can do better. Those stats certainly back him up as a good player. I think we're all hoping that Fitz's systems will bring out the best in him. And not just Connor but other players too.

If Tracey played the season at centre and kept that try per game average there, he'd be 5th overall, on par with Garrick and two behind JAC... solid.

Any idea how to find his tackle efficiency when at centre? Overall it's not great

I once saw a very desperate looking man buy one raw egg from a mcdonalds.
They had to ask the manager - I think they charged him 60c from memory.
He told someone on the phone "I've got the egg" and left.
LOL "I've got the egg".

I've got so many questions

That strike rate from Connor at centre’s is mind boggling. If he can nail that right to left pass in the off season he’ll be ok. Sounds like the off-season might be pretty defensive ordinated so I think we will see some improvement there too.

Probably not that great. You could go through game by game easily enough. I’d assume with a full pre season there it’d get better.
He works hard, runs hard and it felt like a few people were underestimating just how important he was for us during the season.
Not that I’d expect him to hold that rate in a full season, but it’s hardly a bad sign

I’ve always assumed either baking emergency or a bet. Been like 15 years and I still remember it haha

It's all conjecture, but it works in his favour that he was managing that strike rate along with shuffling around positions, defensive partners and not having a stable (or starting) halves pairing. His success is mostly a result of working his arse off... It'll be cool to see what he can do in the 2022 side (assuming we can keep them on the field)

Metcalf hasn’t been a starting 7 at any level higher than U18. He’s a 6 or a 1.

I’ve never rated Kyle Flano as anything other than depth. Never bought into the hype.

Trindall I rate as a solid prospect, but he is not fg level currently, and he is a defensive liability.

Scoring tries obviously isn’t the only thing that matters - but I do like Tracey’s work coming out of his own end. Defensively at centre he is a mess, but the chopping and changing probably doesn’t help that situation.

Haven't seen stats but I don't think Trindall is a defensive liability. Usually it's his outside men, who either cram in.
