Cronulla have ramped up their pursuit of Adam Reynolds with a three-year deal as the halfback merry-go-round gathers pace.
The Sharks are prepared to offer Reynolds $750,000 per season, as well as the security of a long-term commitment, to ensure they have a marquee replacement for North Queensland-bound Chad Townsend.
The Shire outfit may field an all-new halves pairing next year with the off-contract Shaun Johnson weighing up interest from Brisbane. The Broncos are also eyeing off Reynolds and Parramatta’s Mitchell Moses after losing Tom Dearden to the Cowboys.
Incoming Cronulla coach Craig Fitzgibbon has had discussions with Reynolds about joining him at the club next season. South Sydney won’t budge on their one-year offer and feel they already have sufficient halves cover should Reynolds depart.
Souths have extended the contracts of promising halves Lachlan Ilias and Blake Taafe until the end of 2023, while rising rake Peter Mamouzelos has committed until the end of 2024. The trio combined to deliver Souths a 2019 Jersey Flegg premiership with a thrilling 16-14 victory over Canberra in the grand final.
