On backline plays he could get away with just running that line tbh (obviously better if he did have offer more options). It's a good line, it works, and with great pass selection it means defence slide has to hold up to cover it in case he gets it, opening chances outside or else he will be one on one with a defender on their heels. Because he is a relatively easy one on one stop in a straight run though we can't use him many other ways currently. He also doesn't come in for a crash play when hard work is required and is a bad defender.

Talakai can probably run that line 80-90% is good but is far better as a straight runner than Nikora is.

Was really thinking of having an option to hit nikora, go out the back to the fullback or say swing it straight across to the centre. We just seemed to just run that nikora play over and over and defences never had to guess what was coming. Just a second of uncertainty was all he ever needed

Yeah because it is predictable, but he does it well, tendency is to run him on that line to hold up defence slide and create space out wide and unlikely he will actually get it.
Even though he is often more of a decoy as a result that's not really my issue with him, a decoy run has its place and if SJ (or whoever) give him the odd ball when they make a read then great. Them predicting that he will be charging that line hurts his chances of getting the ball but helps our fb/centre/winger have better opportunities.

While a great unders line still very much a part of many second rowers games seeing a lot of teams using more of a straighter runner to target inside gap of centre and their own centre to target between centre and winger to try and force defensive decisions by opposition centre & winger, a play we got beaten by many times. Nikora isn't really as much of a threat on this line as he is too easy to tackle one on one in a straight on tackle. As an edge runner he lacks the size and power to be a threat in this kind of play.

Might just be he can earn more there? Dunno.

Given the state of the ESL and the clubs cashed strapped due to COVID - I highly doubt that he would get what he is on here - let alone more.

AND he is on that for 2 more years here.

It would be the family reunion pulling him - not the money IMO.....

I can't see him moving his young family over there. He seems pretty settled here.

I'd happily trade Andrew for his brother tbh

Dude was top three in the Man Of Steel last year

He couldn't make it here in his prime, what makes you think he could now at 31/32?

That award regularly has contenders that have either finished with or couldn't make it in the nrl.

The only reason to support that trade would be if we were gaining 600k+ in cap space. Even then I'd happily take a rookie on similar money instead.

Think David would be a big factor in Andrew going. Likely need to be something like 3 year contract on at least same money and his brother there to get him to move.

Probably likely David would be better in the NRL now than he was when he left but not to the same standard as he is over there.

Apparently we signed Josh Hannay

Well I don’t know much about him as an AC so will try to reserve judgement. I also think people cast opinions on ACs without really knowing what they do or what there role is in that team.

I did like the idea of getting McDermott but maybe Rona stopped that from happening.

I would of liked a more experienced guy to Help Morris. But unsure of his true credentials and our budget etc.

ofcourse but almost anything would be an upgrade on what he is currently earning here with our club. not like the ESL would be throwing wads of cash at him and would have thought he was in-line for bit of a pay bump with us anyway although I haven't heard anything about the Sharks even offering him a new contract so the clubs mind was probably already made up on him.

always find it a shame when NRL capable players head overseas at a point in their career where they really shouldn't have to. but spose he isn't in the clubs plans anymore (or any other NRL clubs) but if he can earn more that way and secure a longer contract for some stability good on him and completely understand.

A quick google suggests his manager has be offering him around to some ESL clubs. Soro was linked with Hull but Hull have since denied there has been contact at this point as they want to sort out a new coach before player recruitment

adam cuthbertson was also in the top 3

No wonder you don't rate that comp

Like watching Andrew in his prime... except against reggies level defence.

I think it'd be a smart move by Andrew to head over. I don't see him getting another payday here, just a short term, lowball offer... maybe from us, maybe elsewhere.
Though he might even just decide to hang up the boots.

Looks like there's still plenty of passion left in him though. Maybe we can get him on the coaching staff once his playing days are done. That'd be entertaining!
