Ingles announcing his retirement tomorrow apparently

When he announced he was playing another 2yrs before retiring I thought he should have been announcing his retirement then. If you're feeling good for the season ahead retirement is the last thing on your mind.

See ya, GI. Thanks for the entertainment. He was a ****ing beast when he was in the mood. The prototype for future weapons like Latrell.

Gonna be tricky for Souths carrying his wage on the cap for 2 seasons.

Rumour is he might retire, non medically, and forfeit the money.

Apparently he is relinquishing his salary to save them the cap space. Good man, but I’m sure Souths have something planned for him to keep him on he books and paid.

However could this not fall under insurance due to injury? Like Watmough?

"I wish to announce my retirement for the season 2021 effective immediately. I made my debut in 2005, and I have enjoyed my career over the past 23 years. I've had so many wonderful moments in that career that I couldn't count my top 5 on my hand there's that many. I'm not sure what all be doing in the next chapter of my life, but I'll have about 30 beers tonight and have a think about it on the drive home. I will now be taking questions for the next 1/2 hour" *walks out of room*

So if you’re medically retired you can still get paid for your contract (not sure by club or NRL?) but because it is a pre existing injury he is not eligible to medically retire.

He could retire and lose the rest of his contract (which he is), or could try to stick it out getting the money, but it’s just wasted salary cap for the club if he isn’t playing.

Was an incredible player and athlete but as a NSWelshman playing for Qld and a big player in the Storm salary cheating he’ll always have a bit of a black spot against his reputation to me.

NRL essentially pays all under the cap salaries through the grant.

A medical retirement would be on insurance to pay out, absolving the club of that. I dunno if mental **** is covered but unless they can pin his inability to play on a fresh physical injury I'd say they'll have to soak it up.

The worst thing about this is he'll be working in the media earlier.

GI and Hodges commentating a game together. Just kill me now.

I realise about the grants, but still a difference between club paying (NRL money or not) and NRL paying separately, on top of the grant.
Probably right though that's it's through NRLs insurance.

normally if a player retires with a contract and cant be medically retired the club will have to pay

inglis is forfeiting his salary

I can only imagine no club would choose to pay a retired player. If you retire that voids your pay surely.
Inglis is forfeiting his salary because, like any other club, the rabbits are not just going to keep paying someone who is retired for no reason*.

If any other player with a year to run won a GF or whatever and retired the club wouldn't keep paying their contract.

*not able to be medically retired

In your head, rent free
i think if a player is forced to retire mid contract due to injury without being medically retired, that club has to pay him the remainder of the contract. it happened to parra with watmough

if they are medically retired then they dont absorb the ocntract
