Morris is a very experienced rep centre who will not just fill the gap between now and Xerri's debut, but massively aid Xerri's development.

You could argue Dugan is also that, but he has spent most of his career at fullback and is still learning the nuances of the position himself.

Add to the fact that Morris is a whole-hearted cleanskin and he's far more than a band-aid solution.

I agree, add to the fact that Morris is a left centre just like Xerri. Perfect development and not really a band-aid solution in my book.

Good point. Not saying Morris is on the same level as Lewy, but by all accounts he is a very good guy to have in the sheds and looks after the younger players. Will be great for Xerri.

So who would your centres be next year if we didn't sign Morris?
I'm not saying Morris is a bad signing, but I don't want to lose another young player due to signing one of these near retired players.

Morris, yes

Hayne, no

We won't mate.

Remember Xerri is only 18. He'll probably get a few games next year with Duges likely to miss a few games as usual.

Surely they are running out of money!
They are so pov, their salary cap has a hole in it the money keeps falling through - it never fills up

I guess if we are happy with a team populated by wife bashers, coke heads, drink drivers and blokes who send death threats to teenagers or twitter followers ... I could deal with one egomaniac.
that's the spirit! every club has to share the load

if we never signed older blokes we would be fielding a under 20's team and prob not making finals every year. we don't tend to rush our junior players through for the sake of getting a signature and I think we have the balance pretty good.

with Lewy gone I think the Morris signing is an important one, he brings similar good vibes to the club/squad and will give 100% not to mention he is better than the bloke he replaces. he is a pro that will go about his business and not cause us any dramas. need players like this with the Dugans, FIfitas ect around. Feki's on a winner

Yeah but if we don't throw Xerri a bone someone else will, just like Ado Carr and Scott.

playing him to make him happy doesn't guarantee his signature with the sharks either even though we took the risk debuting him at the expense of an experienced player - if anything it puts him on the radar of even more clubs and sends his price through the roof - providing he performs ofcourse

I'm happy for Flanno to pick him in firsts if he feels he is the players best tasked to do the job in helping us win games as a squad

Ado Carr & Scott were not the players they were now while at Cronulla. Especially Ado Carr which everyone gets hung up about, thing was we already had a very special kid in Val holmes coming through who showed a heck of a lot more in the 20's than Ado Carr ever did

Hindsight right, you win some you lose some

Memory might serve me wrong but Ado Carr was amazing in his first year.

Scott i'm not that concerned about, he hasn't shown that much.

Xerri will get game time in 2019, remember Flanno wanted to play him this year but the NRL wouldn't allow it.

Relax.

Ado Carr was good yea, scoring try's and all that but personally I wouldn't put him on the same level as what Holmes was at and showing consistently week on week.

Consequence of timing, Holmes was already cementing a wing spot in firsts and carving up. If we knew ahead of time Val would be our first grade fullback maybe a wing spot for Ado Carr could have been planned for or facilitated in FG but we still had Barba, Feki around ect so doubt it

Bellamy's done wonders with Ado Carr. Yes he was fast at the Sharks and no one could get near him but he couldn't defend and he had no bulk whatsoever.
Bellamy fixed all that.

Ado Carr was awesome for us in the 20s. He was a stand out.

I wouldn't say he was a stand out mate. He got much stronger down in the Melbourne system.

As I said, I remember him being fast but I also remember him being thrown around like a rag doll some days.

And he just could not tackle. Grabbed at air heaps of times. Val looked much the better prospect.

That's pretty normal for an under 20s talent really.

It was easy to tell that he could be very good.

He was carving up and a level above in that regard.

We'll agree to disagree mate. I had seen plenty of others in 20s over the years like Ado Carr who had talent but were never heard of again.
Again, I don't remember him carving up.

I'd like to see his stats during his time at the 20s and see how many tries he did score compared to others. I don't remember him killing it like Val did or Katoa in 2017.
