Mortimer signed for Leeds and leaves in 2 weeks

That's OK if we get 2 games out of him if needed .
Three weeks time is our next bye .
Seggy due back in 1-2 weeks , but would be nice to give him 4 weeks , before full contact .

Talented centre Ricky Leutele’s move to the Titans for next season may be off.

One of the stars of Cronulla’s grand final win last season, Leutele was set to join the Gold Coast for his wife to be closer to family following the birth of a child recently.

Leutele is under contract to the Sharks for 2018 but the club was prepared to release him on compassionate grounds.

The Titans were keen to grab the speedy centre three months ago - but the deal was never done and I’m hearing Gold Coast coach Neil Henry is now having second thoughts and may look elsewhere.

Jack Bird’s nose is out of joint at the Broncos six months before he even sets foot in Broncos territory.

The versatile Bird joined the Broncos as a marquee signing for 2018 a couple of months ago - with the opportunity to play in the halves his main motivation for the switch.

Bird can play just about anywhere in the backline but desperately wants to play in the halves and signed with the Broncos assuming he would inherit the spot left vacant by Ben Hunt's departure.

However, Broncos coach Wayne Bennett stated recently that Kodi Nikorima and Anthony Milford are likely to be the Broncos’ halves in 2018 - and that hasn’t gone down well with Bird.

So the question now has to be asked - where does Bennett plan to play his star recruit?

Darius Boyd has a mortgage on the fullback spot - Bird’s second position of choice - which only leaves the centres - and there he has speedster James Roberts and the back-to-form Tautau Moga.

It could mean Bird starts on the bench in a ‘super sub’ role or takes Moga's spot in the centres - the same position he is currently playing and doesn't overly like.

Centre or sub is certain not to sit well with the Sharks ace.

As much as I want to keep Ricky I really hope he gets a contract at the Tits for his sake as well and his family.

And Bird needs a reality check. He's in no position to be demanding where he plays.

Most of it is probably from third parties anyway so what do they care. How else can they possibly have Sims on $85k and Roberts on ~$250k of cap space.

It's absurd the NRL allows this.

Yep he's gone - that's Cherrington, Mortimer and Drew all leaving mid season.

Surplus to needs I guess, the assumption being Lee, Capwell, Paulo, Segy and Brown is the depth we'll call up if any backs, or spine goes down.

Freeing up a bit of cap space too ?

Surely that's like 300k free?
