prior wont leave

Yeah I'm hoping he doesn't. Flanno has basically done a "Bellamy" with him. Hopefully Prior recognizes that sticking with the same coach is going to be the best thing for his footy. Couldn't blame him for leaving if someone threw the big bucks at him though.

Andrew Johns is the main one I hear with the 5/8 talk and he's probably just trying to propagate a delusion designed to deliver Bird to the Knights anyway.

Actually it's a bit too complicated for Joey. Scratch that.

Since when did joey give a **** about the knights? Hasnt given a **** since he played.

Jack bird is a ball runner, nothing else. Put him at 2nd row or lock and let his body develop and he could be one of the best.

Hot or Not: Roosters to chase Jason Taumalolo, Dragons debutant with one eye, Storm legacy

ALONG with Trent Robinson’s arrival, Sonny Bill Williams was the best thing to happen to the Roosters in recent years.

Little wonder the club’s now working on its 2018 salary cap to make a play for joint-Dally M medallist Jason Taumalolo, the man likened to SBW when he first came to prominence as a prodigious 16-year-old.

The Sharks are already on the record in declaring their interest for Taumalolo, and the Roosters — with an obvious track record of chasing big names and getting them — join the premiers and more than a few NRL rivals keen to lure him south.

It goes without saying the Cowboys want to keep the most dynamic forward in the game, but the fact Taumalolo is yet to start contract talks with them has the club on edge.

Hence Paul Green’s repeated calls for guidance on the 2018 salary cap, North Queensland are desperate to get the ball rolling with the 23-year-old powerhouse.

Taumalolo will sit down with his management this week or next, but any decision on his future is considered a way off.

With a starting price tag of $1-1.2 million a year, Taumalolo’s loyalty to the Cowboys is still strong, and has seen him rebuff big offers from Cronulla and the Warriors before.

It’s not the first time the Roosters have eyed him off either. When Williams left the Tricolours at the end of 2014, Taumalolo was top of their shortlist to replace the cross-code colossus before he inked his current two-year deal with the Cowboys.

The circuit breaker this time around is his pursuit of an NFL start.

The great unknown of the American game holds great appeal for Taumalolo, and he’s reportedly caught the eye of three franchises who want to take him back Stateside for private trials at season’s end.

If he chases and lands an NFL rookie contract, Taumalolo would go from one of the biggest salaries commanded by a rugby league forward to a pay packet worth around half as much.

As for the Roosters, they have key forward pack pillars Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Sio Siua Taukeiaho (contracted until 2020), Dylan Napa (2019), Jake Friend and Boyd Cordner (2018) locked down long-term.

But they’re still shuffling their roster with Aidan Guerra, Kane Evans, Blake Ferguson, Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Daniel Tupou among their biggest names currently on the open market.

Taumalolo doesn’t possess the same incredible training and cultural influence of an SBW, but he’s arguably just as talented. He’d be a scary addition to an already intimidating pack.

An uncertain future certainly hasn’t affected his game. Taumalolo smashed out an incredible 289 running metres against Canberra — a whopping 125 metres more than anyone else in the game — and topped the Cowboys’ tackle count.

Every Roosters fan i speak to laughs at the prospect. No way they can fit him in, even under Uncle Nick's salary cap. And even if somehow they did id just jump on Sio Siua Taukeiaho at a fraction of the price.

I dont think were front runners by any means, but were ahead of the roosters IMO.

I don't think we'll get Taumalolo at all. Why would you want to leave the tropical paradise that is Townsville?

Not everyone's cup of tea, certainly not mine. Too humid. Also JT1 can't have too much longer left so you'd expect them to drop off quite a bit, JT3 may want to go to a club to taste further success.

When is JT1's current contract up HB? Is it his last one? Has he said he's hanging up the boots after this contract? I wonder how the Cows will go once he does retire? Probably slip down the ladder and struggle to make the 8. That's how good he is.

Don't know mate but he turns 34 next month, can't be too much longer left. They will definitely slip down the ladder, there's no doubt about that.

From what I've heard Joey really likes the Knights. I've heard him say things like "yeah I like the Knights" and "what great memories" and "geez I hope they go good".
