I'm no huge fan of Flanno Paul C, but apart from the 2014 debacle he's taken us to the finals more often than not. You have to face the reality that he will serve out his current contract here and possibly get extended. The players seem to want to play well for him and whether it is him or Mooney or Lyall attracting players to the club, he is getting some good players on board.
Yes his attacking nous isn't great but when all we've had at 7 for the past few years was Robbo, there wasn't much else he could do. Now that Bird and Holmes have a season under their belts and Maloney is on board it will be a true test of Flanno's ability as a coach and his attacking prowess.
Yes, he seems to be more cautious than other coaches, more conservative and less likely to give the young guys a go, but they have to step up to the mark and earn a spot. They aren't just entitled to it because they're a local junior.
If we get through this season with no injuries and playing to our true potential with Val, Bird and Barba all firing, then we should easily make the top 4, we could finish as minor premiers even.
So mate, sit back, try and enjoy the season and get used to the fact that Flanno and Gal will be at the helm. It won't be smooth sailing, no season ever is, but I reckon we'll see some good footy this year.
