Bird has shown that he can more than handle defending at the NRL level. I think defending at 6 this year will only help his translate to defending better at centre. I mean he's already getting targeted by big wide running 2nd rowers.

I dont understand the notion by some here that he'll struggle defending bigger centres. If anything the fleet footed centres in the mould of Jennings, Roberts etc will trouble him more IMO. But then again, who doesnt struggle against those blokes?

Wait people are questioning Bird's defense?!?

He's a technically strong defender, and he will only improve as he gets stronger. Like he has been making 30 tackles a game all season, he has been targeted and handled himself very well.

From what I've seen, yeah. He's probably one of the more hyped backs in that age group.

Milne is probably more nrl ready than Scott but with beale still contracted I don't think need to be looking for a starting centre unless an absolute star becomes available.

Scott would benefit ten fold from a full year in 20s and then the next year if he's good enough he can push beale to reserves, but even then he's only 18 isn't he so can't see him breaking through too early.

Would prefer to keep one of ours then recruit from elsewhere too, unless there's an obvious improvement.

Problem is good prospects aren't going to hang around to play reserves when they are getting firsts contract offers elsewhere.

With Scott building as a bit of a junior cult hero too would be nice to keep him around.
