A long ban isn't going to help matters. They should suspend him for 2 weeks, fine him, but most importantly get him and that ref together and he should apologize. Then make him be an ambassador for the respect the ref program and he can be the "learnt the error of my ways" guy. That will contribute a lot more to the greater problem than rubbing him out for the year.

Spot on.

Putting aside whether or not they learned anything, that is the classic sports fix. "Dig wrong, helping now. What a champ I am".

Ridiculous if true, would put a real dent in our hopes for this year.

It certainly isn't ridiculous. I think it is fitting. He doesn't deserve the sack but that stuff isn't on.

Threatening to beat the up the referee isn't a part of any game in Australia.

On the up side. Until he cuts the rubbish from his game we are kind of breaking even. Taga has taken over the barnstorming role. He isn't as talented, but he seems to get his career is on the line.

did he threaten to beat up the referee?

I think thats the sticking point.

Did he say "I'll smash you" or "I'll smash it" (referring to the phone as opposed to the ref).

No one who wasn't there seems to know for sure and there are supposedly conflicting stories backing both sides.

If he's lawyered up and says its the later he deserves a whack but unless you can prove otherwise there'll be a legal ****fight from the looks of things.

Like others have said did he threaten to hit the guy, do you have first hand knowledge about the incident? If we lose him for 8 weeks it would be a massive hit to our chances. I'm a huge fan of Taga but Andrew is in another league, he's a proven match winner who we'll need in the big games.

How can it not be seen as ridiculous to determine Fifita's guilt and severity of punishment based on hearsay and one eyed reporting? I recal first grade players getting 1 week bans for making deliberate contact with a ref ffs.

If he's telling the truth then why does he deserve a whack for doing so?

If the truth is he got up in the face of a junior ref thats not on. Its just wrong to abuse any ref, especially junior refs, but take into consideration he's an NRL player on $700K+ he is held to a higher standard, especially when it comes to Rugby League.

I don't think he'll be back this season. Whatever actually happened should never have happened, he shouldn't even find himself in the situation he ended up in. Hundreds of other nrl players manage to get through week after week without ****ing up.

One of the most frustrating players to support. Needs to get his head on straight and cut the **** on and off the field. Grr!

I guess its taking the good with the bad. He is an incredible footballer who can do what no one else who plays in his position can. But he's a bit of a ******** too.

Protect him, school him and keep him under wraps focused wholly on the Sharkies.

The referee was not a "junior ref". He was refereeing an A-Grade game, which is administered by the Penrith & District Junior Rugby League.

The players were seniors, so was the ref.

A. Does it make much difference?
B. I think the players were more "senior" so again: does it make much difference?

It seems as though both sides have gathered statements supporting their version of events. I fail to see why one sides version is more credible than the others. Without any video evidence it really is a matter of "he said she said "!

If he gets 8 weeks it's embarrassing. I sure most of us will be filthy if he gets rubbed out for that long. If that's the case then SKD if found guilty on any of the TEN charges can never play NRL again. Let's see NRL handle this correctly. I've got my doubts

So do I, but then when you have people in the media pushing their agenda buzz kent etc, we will always see this kind of an outcome people like some on this board fall for it hook line and sinker every-time.

I am not going to take much notice of the article in the SMH as I doubt any decision would have been made as yet, players still have to meet with the board and I would think they will also have to look at the legal side of things especially after the Carney issue.

The worst part is a player gets the rest of the year off and a fine lol once again it will seriously hamper any chances we have in the finals, what will it do absolutely bloody nothing it wont stop abuse of official's by parents etc people are kidding themselves if they think it will.

If anything he should only get two weeks and a very large financial penalty even 20k is a joke when you on 700k a year, if you want to make a player think it needs to be in the hip pocket not time off is just so easy especially with the amount these guys get paid these days and their contracts.
