Classic case of GF experience.

10 years from now you have to wonder if Hawks will be bottom dwellers like the Lions.

Selwood from the Weagles as well. Lachie Henderson in the next few days and it'll be a pretty successful week. Can't complain. :)

Yep the Henderson deal has now been done. We get your first round draft pick next year which is meant to be a super draft. I'm very happy with that outcome.

Shaping up to be a pretty interesting trade period. Seems like every Club has its finger in at least one pie. I wish the NRL had an element of it - it demands real risk-taking and strategy to succeed.

Harold - your aptly named Blues will have done well if they can land Tomlinson to add to Weitering in the draft. Set those KP stocks up for a long time with those two plus Kruezer. They did well to squeeze a first rounder out of Geelong too after the talk of second rounders. Hope they do the same to Richmond over Yarran too.

Yeah I don't think Hendo is worthy of a first rounder based on his form over the past few years. Has potential but I seriously think he's a little weak upstairs.

On Yarran, funny but he's exactly the same as Hendo but with more potential. I don't think he's the type of player that Richmond needs but they seem intent on getting him. Would love to snag their pick 12.

Also a bit of chatter around that the Crows may target Gibbs to replace Dangerfield given he's an Adelaide boy. I wouldn't be against it. Another player that has the skills and loooks brilliant when the team is playing well but goes missing when the going gets tough. This is the problem at Carlton, too many soft players.

It will be a painful 3-5 years but I'll cope if they at least appear to have a plan and work towards it. Their recruitment over the last 13 years has been abysmal.

I'd love Yarran at the Swans. We desperately need that pace and kicking ability given the general tendency to butcher the ****in thing. Grew up a Swans fan too. No way of paying for him though :(.

I'd think pretty hard about that trade if I were Carlton. I assume two first rounders would be involved... that's what they need. The Saints have shown how to do it. If the Blues keep their collective heads and don't revert back to thinking its their god-given right to be at the top and have whoever they want because they're Carlton then they'll bounce back fine I reckon. Gone a long way by getting SOS back on board and giving Bolton the keys to the team.

It's only fair that the smaller clubs get a little helping hand. ;)
Seriously though, I'm fine with losing a few draft picks. I still trust Wellsy to find a couple of diamonds with the picks we have. For us, it's going to be more about keeping the guys we do have fit and on the field.

I know some people get totally off on it, but is the trade period a massive snoozefest for anyone else?

Blues are killing it if they land Tomlinson too today. SOS calling in some favours from his GWS mates.

Swans got royally reamed yesterday on the 14 + Bird for a second and third rounder. Only gained 16 points for a Premiership player and greasing up a deal that didn't involve them! Pharkin nuts.

I'd love Tomlinson but depends what we give up. There's talk it will take whatever pick we get from Richmond for Yaran + 21. That's too much. If it's just whatever pick we get for Yarran then I will be very happy with this period. SOS doing well.

A bit disappointed we bended over for Richmond re Yarran. For pick 19 would have preferred we kept him and have some faith that Bolton could have turned him around. Still, having picks 1, 8 and 11 in the draft is a good outcome. Good to see the club finally taking a long term approach.

Harold SOS killed it IMO - I would be very happy. Snaring the Dogs' first rounder was a) inexplicable and b) golden for Carlton. I don't think you got bent over at all by Richmond, the Blues had them chasing an upgrade all week and 19 beats their second rounder by plenty. Plowman + his mates is an absolute bargain too.

On the Swans front - we copped a reaming on the Bird trade and I'm not sold on Talia at all so a pretty ordinary period for us. Keen to see Mills run out in Rd 1 next year though!

Yeah SOS has done well, it's a massive upgrade on what Wayne Hughes did over the years for Carlton. If 1 of the GWS 4 plays 100 games and SOS nails 2/4 of his top 4 draft picks it's been a sensational draft period. Only 1 year into a 4-5 year rebuild though but at least there's a plan.

On Talia, I think he's worth a punt for a pick in the 60's, not a bad move really.
