Sydney FC is set to unveil Australia star Brett Emerton as its marquee signing today ending weeks of speculation the veteran Socceroos midfielder may return to the A-League.
Emerton, 32, will leave Blackburn Rovers one year early after terminating his contract by mutual consent.
The World Game revealed on Monday Sydney FC was pursuing Emerton and fellow Socceroos stars David Carney and Nathan burns, having missed out on Harry Kewell.
The club is also believed to have been pursuing a 10-match guest playing stint with former Arsenal star Freddie Ljungberg.
Emerton is reported to have signed a three-year deal to fill the Sky Blues' second marquee spot alongside Nicky Carle after passing a medical in Manchester Wednesday (AEST), according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Australia's second most-capped player has overcome a minor hamstring complaint that sidelined him against Aston Villa last weekend, and was back on the park against Sheffield Wednesday in a Carling Cup fixture on Thursday (AEST).
Emerton will make his 248th and final appearance for his only EPL club at Ewood Park against Tim Cahill's Everton this weekend.
Sydney's successful pursuit of Emerton caps a stunning week for the A-League, coming days after Melbourne Victory announced the signing of Harry Kewell.
