Another year of hearing how soft our draw is.... I'm pretty tired of hearing it to be honest.
better than being one of the **** teams who never get an easy draw, because they are everyone else's 'pencil in a win' a week.

To be honest I wouldn't mind playing some of the better teams more. You don't get better by playing **** teams a lot.
You definitely don't wanna go overboard on easy wins, a mix is good. It can end up being wildly inaccurate anyway when some teams get better and some get worse. Fitness plays into it - you'd probably be better off having your best 17 on the park a lot for a harder draw than having frequent/extensive injuries and an easy draw.

We have 18 games with a 7 day plus turnaround, the second most of any team. This is brilliant.
Play 3 teams off the bye too, one of which is the Broncos after origin, and I think another is after we had the bye the week before. So won't make a massive impact.

Surely a third easy draw in a row is too good to be a coincidence. I was wondering if part of it comes down to the broadcasting. Is it possible that we end up with more games vs other smaller fan bases/viewer ships as it means they can put us more easily in less desirable time slots for tv? Where as they want more of those broncos v souths style games for prime time slots. Or am I just spinning complete bs?

Exactly. Lower ranked teams haven't been a problem the last few years! More swings at the big teams, the better I think.

You could be onto something there!

Don't love our bye breakdown

5 games, bye, 9 games, bye, 3 games, bye, 7 games

Bye round 6, 22% of way through season
Round 16, 59% of way through season
Round 20, 74% of way through season

bye, 3 games, bye, then 7 games straight... plenty of time to build momentum I guess...

Luckily post last bye only round 21 and 23 we leave NSW - last four games are two at home, Dragons and Manly, not much travel will help alleviate the lack of bye, with mostly good turn arounds

I think it's better than this season if I remember correctly.

Ideally would like the last bye a couple of weeks later though.

I'd argue the big money clubs basically get a soft draw every year.

The get more free to air games, as they have again this year, which gives them more exposure to fans outside their area, which means more sponsorship, merch sold etc. On top of that they way more support staff, and better facilities than a club like ours does, all of which is outside the cap. And then there are the third party deals and the fact that they can sign big names for less because they can promise success which becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

When Gould comes out and mentions our soft draw someone should ask him the difference between the sharks and dogs expenditure each year in non salary cap expenses. I'm going to guess it's a difference of 5-10 times.

Duck em if they cant take joke.

I think someone at NRL HQ messed up - our draw was meant for the Broncos...

Last time we had a soft draw we won the comp - oh wait that was a soft comp not a soft draw

Winning regular season games isn't our problem though and we prob still would have won enough to make the 8 anyway so beyond your finishing position in the 8 the soft draw doesn't help you beyond there once the finals start and finals games is what we suck at

If you win a comp, the history pages aren't going to note what kinda of draw you had that year

If the lower placed teams improve in 2024 suddenly our draw won't be so soft

2023: Round 6, 13 and 17 so
5 games, bye, 6 games, bye, 3 games, bye, 10 games straight
vs this year
5 games, bye, 9 games, bye, 3 games, bye, 7 games

So I guess yeah, trending in right direction - two years in a row bye, 3 games, bye though, seems not very balanced...

I thinks its only supposed to be something like once a decade, at least.☹️
More like every two!

Even just another double header without a Sharks game would be nice, I enjoyed being able to hit two games

And yet again we get a Sunday game in the last round.

Haven't looked at every team but Broncos have
bye, game, game, bye in origin period then round 24
Cows have the same origin period split, then round 25.

Those are pretty nice for sides with big origin numbers and then a little break near the back of season

Gus needs to understand that we are a top 8 team and can’t play ourselves.
The dogs continue to be **** and as a result of never being in the 8, always have the possibility of facing all of the top 8 teams. It’s just maffs.
