Gus calls stupid things stupid and the stupid people who let it happen get upset. Love or hate Gus what he said is 100% on the mark. I look forward to how this plays from here because the NRL have poked a bear who knows all the games (footy, media, club land etc.) far better than they do. Good luck tryna gag Gus. Abdo lining up for some embarrassment at best.
Agree or disagree as a club official he has has to toe the company line to a certain degree. If he thinks he didn’t go beyond that he can appeal.
Slagging off your work on tv can often have repercussions, even if in this instance he doesn’t directly work for NRL he still is contracted to them as a club official I believe.

If Gus can’t do both media and club roles he should choose one.

What are you referring to, mate? I'm genuinely lost.
Gus had a rant and NRL fined him for it

What he was talking about has nothing to do with his club affiliations. Punishments for disagreeing is weak. You seem like the lacky who just expects everyone else to fall in line as easily but I doubt Gus will be so spineless.

In a statement, the NRL said, “the code provides that no person bound by the code shall engage in any conduct which is detrimental to, brings into disrepute, is inconsistent with, is contrary to, or is prejudicial to, the best interests, image or welfare of the ARLC, the NRL, the NRL competition, the related competitions, the representative competitions, the clubs or the game”.

So are the NRL hierarchy going to fine themselves, the MRC and officials for introducing rules that “is detrimental to, is inconsistent with, the NRL competition”?

It's about Gus calling them stupid. If he'd formed the message better, as he has done a thousand times in the past, he wouldn't have gotten the fine.
Having said that, it wouldn't have gotten the attention, either. I wouldn't be surprised if Gus has a plan around this, he's not stupid. Old, cantankerous at times, a Bulldog... crafty, but not stupid.

They make these new rules then have no idea how to police them, it's absolutely doing my head in.

This disruptor rule is ****ing embarrassing.

They blow penalties when attackers are making an honest attempt to catch a bomb. On the other hand we have Cook last night withdraw his hands at the last split second and the Penrith guy (can't remember who it was, probably Edwards) dropped it and it's not a penalty.

The constant tinkering with the rules over the past 4-5 years is beyond ridiculous. Players hate it, coaches hate it, spectators hate it...everyone hates it so why the **** do they keep doing it?

The more people whose opinion matter and are heard, the better.

NRL rules have a lot to do with his employment as an NRL sanctioned official at an NRL club playing NRL.

He used his other platform to call people(s decisions) stupid - people with a contractual capacity to fine him - he is wearing the consequences.

Like others have said he definitely could have found ways to get his message across without getting himself fined.

He’ll appeal it if he doesn’t think it’s right.
If he was content to cop a fine it was probably a good way to go about it because I think his message was pretty widely agreed with.

If being smart enough not to directly call my boss stupid makes me a lacky then so be it.

Yeah Gould was spot on and I think the way he's gone about it was tactical.

For me it demonstrates that the NRL aren't engaging with key stakeholders on rule development and changes or the engagement that is occurring is ineffective.

Gus is a smart operator. If he could affect change through the channels available to him he would do that.

The ludicrous ref / bunker decisions around disrupters have put the game in disrepute more than one player getting charged for DUI!

Listen to what he says rather than what you think his ego is like.
I replied before , YES I agree with what he said 100%
What.I don't agree with is having one leg in two camps .
Commentator and Club administration.
UNLESS every Club administrator can have a crack on mainstream media as well

… but he did not say those words in an official capacity. If he said that as a Bulldogs official the I would have agreed with you. However, he did not.
