Regardless, I can't see us successfully tangling with the top teams in finals without a Tino or Tapine in our squad.

(Newcastle far from a top team)

Newcastle are fake good just like us.

Broncos and Panthers are a step above the rest of the comp. Knights will play 8th in week 1 and probably win, but i doubt go further thsn week 2. We will lose week one because we dont have the mental fortitude to handle any type of pressure.

Todays lacklustre effort was definitely partly due to complacency of having their position secure

It’s the top 4 by a margin then the rest…best we can hope for is to finish someone’s season with a week one finals win..

Will be finishing our season.

As it sits, next weekend determines where the game is played, and quite possibly, week 1 will be a repeat match up.

Need the win next weekend to a…get a home semi (prob end up at allianz but meh) and b…have that slight mental edge

So Canberra twice...ha
Hows our record lately V this lot?
Ha
We need to seriously look at our squad...We cant seriously think we will do anything next few years with this team...We need a proper hard **** prop and hooker who can actually kick and pass like an adult

Roosters win
Cowboys win
Sharks win

Sharks v Cowboys at home for a repeat. Provided I haven’t cocked that up

I thought we were great in the first half , defence on our line was amazing , i seen something like Knights 33 touches inside the 20 to our 6 at one stage . What I don't get is how we can come out for the second half and be so passionless in both defence and attack , it's like we just can't find another gear or lift our mindset and just hang tough . Players dropping off tackles , missing tackles , not running hard with the ball .

We need to find some character next week and I'm not sure we can .

I also hope this performance doesn't suggest that we are a one man team and can only perform when Hynes plays .

Look, today was disappointing for sure.

And we are not going to trouble any side in the top 4.

But at least I can console myself with the fact that I don’t support the Dragons, Tigers or Dogs.

As miserable as we all feel this evening, fans of those clubs would feel even more miserable.

We looked totally spent 5 mins in, was one play early 3-4 th tackle after they kicked still had looked like 5 still in front of play.

Players not getting back behind the ball is not an indicator of fatigue. They are trained to do this. It’s just something commentators like to talk about.

Yep thats why the backs take those hit ups to take load off the others. I hate when the comms team talk about this like an indication of effort or fatigue. Why would a front rower run back to the 20 when in 2 hit ups the ball is past them anyway

Yup. Also goes nicely with the logic of “couldn’t make yards out of their own end = forwards got outplayed”. FFS 90% of those runs aren’t taken by forwards.

or sharksforever logic… backs couldn’t make metres out of their end off passes from the halves = Brailey couldn’t get the forwards on a roll.

I noticed brailey doing it too. Surely he's worth having back there for his service and not waiting until we are up past the 20.

Nope.

Backs are told that their job is to get the ball past the forwards.

Forwards (including hookers) are told that they must WALK back onside, and let the backs get it back to around the 30m line.

Not my opinion. I know for a fact that this is how players are trained.

What if they were blowing harder than Toby after a 30 minute stint into a headwind.

Largely irrelevant. They are middle forwards. They are supposed to be working their freckles off.

A perfect stint from a middle would be 1) redline in defence, 2) get a 30 second rest on early tackles, 2) run a support line or throw a tip on, 3) take a hit-up, 4) chase the kick, 5) rinse and repeat

30 seconds out of every 3 minutes sucking in the big ones is part of the plan.

This game really ****ing sucked. We were in it early, but didn't take our opportunities and build any pressure with possession.

Then the countless errors and penalties inviting us into our end. We reverted right back to where we were 5 weeks ago.

We are not a mentally tough side.

Fitz said in presser that, again, we didn’t put them under pressure and we made too many errors. It’s not about our team being inferior, it’s about game management and not making mistakes. Trindall managed the game beautifully last week. Not so much today. And he didn’t have any help today either. And we made mistakes today. We gave them the game.

Long term Trindall may not be the answer as our other half, but for now he’s what we have. Hopefully we get to play three more games this year with the seven on his back and he progresses next year.

Tricky tried too hard today and didn't respond to being the guy. He'll learn from it, but it will be good to have Nicho back.
