Ok well currently, Cows are fighting for 8th with a few other teams, say it comes to that last round, 1 team wins and then its a cowboys must win to make the 8 situation and their opponent rests 15 players……how the **** is that fair to the competition
Well it’s a top 8. Most years winning 1-2 more than you lose will get you there. As Cap said, if you have to rely on other results in week 27 you didn’t do a good enough job in weeks 1 to 26.

Penrith have a 30 man squad & are entitled to pick whatever 18 from that they want for game day. Any impact that might have on other teams is irrelevant to their mission.

If you wanna talk "fair" then its fair Penrith earned the freedom to pick who they want. Teams relying on other results haven't earned anything yet.

You and i both know this place would go into ****ing meltdown if we slipped out of the 8 because another team gets a gift in the last round. Dont even act like youd be ok with it

This place goes into meltdown when things are good lol

I'd cop it. I wouldn't have my expectations too high if we're hanging on for other results to get us in the 8.

If we couldn't move up or down in last round should we give a **** how our team selection might affect others or just worry about what's best for us?

There is no way this place would just cop it if we were knocked out by a team that gets a gift win.

I agree you control your own fate but **** theres teams like Newy (who i ****ing hate) that have turned it around who may well be the team that falls victim to the cowboys getting an easy assignment in the last round.

Fair enough if the game is a dead rubber i get it.

Im not saying Penrith shouldnt be thinking about themselves, im saying the NRL need to be thinking about the integrity of their competition (which os called into question every week for various reasons already)

I'm absolutely fine with Penrith resting their side in the given circumstances. I think Brisbane will too and they've earned the right.

That said, it's not hard to have a week off before finals like the afl do. Would avoid this issue and make for more interest in the last round.

Where's the integrity of the competition being upheld for Penrith in this scenario?

Congratulations on being the best team all year, oh by the way we're forcing you to play your best team in a game that means nothing to you, hope no gets injured, good luck.

Yeh plus you also need to look at other years

They have rested players last round every year

However, they want the MP so i think they will leave a few out of the 3 remaining games and not a huge turnover in the last round

Cows will beat half strength resting Penrith to go with their win over them earlier this season with a Salmon/Cogger halves pairing and everyone will be impressed how many top 8 teams they can beat

Yeah, its not Penrith's fault that their last bye was round 19 and teams like the Cows, Broncos and Bunnies get one in the last month of the season.

With the bye this week, not sure Brisbane will need to rest anyone in round 27.

Is it not still a thing? I thought it was a great idea.

Fair point, I didn't consider that.

I'm sure they back themselves to beat anyone, but if I'm them I'd much rather finish second and play NZ at home than finish first and welcome Melbourne up to suncorp.
