As in a pain-killing injections? Cortisone injections during games are prohibited by WADA. It is allowed during recovery but approval is required.

Any needles players are having these days during the games I assume are local anaesthetic (e.g. numb the area and stitch it up), or some other family of drugs.

As for pain-killers in general, I think the distinction is that while pain killers have the potential to improve an athlete's performance on the day, over time the repeated use of pain killing meds have a detrimental impact on muscle tissue. I.e. You can't gain a physical advantage that you wouldn't have otherwise had over someone else by using Voltaren for 3 months in the off-season, even though by reducing pain/inflammation it will likely help you maintain your current levels of strength/activity.

It's a grey area for sure though.
Pain is the bodies way of saying "slow that **** down bro, you hurt", so I'm surprised that player welfare hasn't been a bigger topic in this. You still hear coaches, commentators and players talk about getting multiple needles a game in reverent tones.

I believe it can lead to worse injury (feels pretty logical doesn't it?) but i'd be interested to hear from anyone who knows something of this.

Article pretty much covers it.
For things where the main risk of re injury is contact they’ve already taken the chance by by being open to playing. For things where the range of motion can be sufficiently restricted there is also little risk of re-injury.

Additionally it may be an injury deemed sufficiently healed to not risk re-injury but still with pain associated, Toby’s toe for example.
This could be related to scar tissue, or in the case of foot structures, dragging out the back end of a slow healing process.

If you needled something like a hamstring you’re just asking for a worse injury though.

But you’re right, it’s not risk free, it’s just to get them back on the park.

Should Aussies be buying tickets? I get for many it is a cool trip, but don’t we want as many Americans there as possible?
If you were an expat you'd 100% be buying tickets.

A shitload to shell out if traveling from Australia for it though.

Reportedly one plate with screws for Paps, and expected to be able to return to training early in new gear year

Sounds like he has avoided too complex an injury which is lucky for him.

Wildly dangerous tackle by his teammate - extremely high risk of injuring someone.

play the balls

just clarifying the player has to at least make an attempt to touch the ball or touch it with foot right??
(If i'm wrong I will shut up)

but Penrith Panthers hardly, hardly make an attempt - most of them its like tunnel ball. It simply rolls through the legs without even trying to play it properly.
its mostly their forwards that do it, yeo is the main culprit

unless the rules changed

Rule hasn’t changed but they’ve reduced the crackdown on it
See some shockers get through

Tbf is harder to police without second ref, only so many places one ref can be looking

The flop tackle is one that really annoys me, talk about a lottery if you get a penalty or not, see some real late ones get no penalties

I was told differently form a masseuse who is fully qualified to see a tackle and determine then and there the outcome

So if Raiders beat the Knights they get to play the 4th placed Warriors while if we beat the Roosters we have to play the 3rd placed Storm...

Fair enough that the 5th placed Knights get to play the Warriors if they win against Canberra and the Raiders have to play away from home unlike us so things are defs more difficult for the Raiders first up but if they manage an upset technically they get an easier draw than us in week 2 as we both will have to play away from home anyway.

Really is a new competition the finals with seemingly no benefit from your regular season table placement beyond your finals week 1 game.
