2022 Playing Style

The 2022 season is only weeks away now and for us Sharks fans the expectations are high and we are all keen to see how our new recruits go.

We all know Fitz is defence oriented, so hopefully that will steel up our defence (Steve Price will also help) but what about our attack?

How will we play? Have we seen the end of the predictable inside balls and easy to read decoy plays?

Will our players be more attuned to supporting line breaks and have the energy and drive we all crave?

Let us all know your thoughts, what do you think our new playing style will be like?

I'm expecting (and hoping for) a simple attack plan, with plenty of room for eyes up footy.

Think a lot of how we played structurally last year was due to CT as he was the organiser/ leader of how we were shaped - this year the spine has much more creative players. almost certain it will be a very different style

If McInnes and Blayke can handle the middle and some first receiver work I’m quite interested in a Moylan left Hynes right split.
Gives them plenty of opportunity to play eyes up.

If they can’t do that well then the Hynes Trindall combo probably becomes a bit more attractive to me with Trindall playing a more conventional 7 role.

All Stars will be an interesting preview how a Trindall Hynes combo looks. Keen for it.

I think nicho's speed will mean we'll play a bit more expansive footy. He's a running half too, so expecting some big, deep, sweeping plays with Will and Connor burning guys on the edge.

Nicho's also a great support player, so maybe we'll see the return of the offload and second phase play. A team who does that well will kill it in the 2022 version of NRL.

The best style is the one that wins games and can be reasonably replicated each week

That will for sure have to include a resolute defense which we are obviously making efforts to get in place. It's hard to win games and go deep into the finals without a good defense.

With penalties inside our 40m coming back (kick out of trouble) and repeated ruck infringements seemingly still allowed within the defenders half, I anticipate even more attack will be spent camped in the oppositions red zone with us playing from set starts or quick and congested restarts/ptbs

This might work against a free flowing deep open running style from just inside the oppositions half that we may be expecting or wanting to see from Hynes and Kennedy. We will still need to work on some good set moves and be ready to handle a stop start disruptive affair and be adaptable to this when need be.

Moylan and Trindall are good close to the line with the ball. Need more from Brailey

Overall though I think our attack has the potential to be very very good and I don't see how our defense wont be better. We have the players and coaches to make it happen. What will our error rate and discipline look like?

I think we could become some sort of Raiders/Roosters/Eels type kinda hybrid side. Plenty of attack, muscle, creativity but able to absorb pressure and defend when required. Not the worse thing. Hopefully some Storm attitude/elements adopted as well.

Opportunity to be somewhat unique in the way we play and present ourselves to oppositions.
I'm excited.

Unlikely they'll be on the field at the same time though, definitely need more from Brailey.

I want us to be ready to attack from inside our own half, on a retreating defence, not just structured probing backline plays etc to get to places on the field. Ramien need to spark, not run like a 2nd rower. Want 2 min support players, one each side the ballcarryer, genuinely running hard, and more offloads this yr.

It all comes down to the forwards, if we control the ruck we will see Braily shine which then creates defences in 2 minds give plenty of space and time for the half’s and will allow the rest to fall into place.
If the forwards can’t win the ruck then we will struggle big time early in the season

He has respectable speed and agility. Not lightning and his top straight line speed maybe not the greatest but seems to burst well and maintain nice speed while moving around.
Running game is dangerous enough opponents have to be wary of it, which frees up his passing options a bit too.
He is good at making a single defender miss or getting halfway past and getting a pass away

Chad was good at backing up and supporting the runner (that's how he got most of his trys) - can't believe we let him go

Was for a bit but seemed to have lost it

A lot faster than Chad or SJ!

I'll not that sure about top speed, but he seems to have that 0-100 of a Datsun 120Y with a13b rotary engine. Tracey is the same, so I'm hoping to see plenty of opportunities from line breaks, 3 on 2's and the like as they catch defences out
