Can we find a new right centre?

Have to admit our left centre wasn’t great either.

I only saw the first half and listened to the second on the radio.

Glad that we came back but should have put the game away. Thought we’d taken the field goal too early but I think we could have held out if not for Ramien.

I haven’t seen the incident but by all accounts he did a dumb thing, gifting them the ball.

Lots of improvement needed and hopefully we can improve. Defence was pretty good considering the amount of ball they had. Need to cut out the silly errors.

Onwards to next week against the Eels, another very tough one.
bad take the ramien won, we all **** the bed

the raiders hadnt made more than 40m a set in the second half so had we aimed up, they are taking a long range field goal

we allowed 3 offloads in the set, unacceptable

also, you can see jack wighton running short side and no one from the middle ran across until it was too late

Yeah, this was a bit too much 2021 Sharks... I don't think it'll be missed by Fitz though.

We were behind all game. Finally we get ahead with not long to go. We have a great set from their restart and bomb to what should have been them hemmed down their end with 5 mins to go.

Instead, bonehead gives away a stupid penalty and our heads probably drop.

None of the rest happens if not for a ****ing dumb and unnecessary play.

Are you talking about the winning try? Blaming the inside defenders is just wrong there mate. The Sharks had numbers. It was 4 on 4 with Kennedy in position and Finucane and Brailey both pushing from the middle. It should have been shut down easily - and those middles 2 nearly saved it.

The try happens because Nikora made a mess of it. He ran out of the line, and then stopped once the ball had gone past him. If he takes 3 steps towards Young at walking pace instead of stopping the Sharks win.

I'd also like to have seen a better effort from Kennedy on Young. Pretty poor miss really.

That Russell tackle wasn't even put on report, was it?
No, I'm fine with that too, although it's close.
Dylan Brown one last year he drops his knees never looks close to trying to make a tackle. Jayden Campbell I thought looked like he was trying to affect a legitimate contact and knee blow was incidental as part of that. He extends arms out for first contact, has upper body positioned to be involved in tackle, unlike Brown's one.
Unfortunately but nothing malicious there I don't think.

A bit of both I think. So I agree with you, Snowy. I don't think he was channelling Slater in the attempt, but he sure did slide in with the knees

It's funny, I don't think he should be charged but I'd also be fine with an 8 point try.
Perhaps a can of worms to penalise something that causes a 6-8 week injury but not charge it, although that can certainly doesn't open when there is no initial penalty.
As I said, I don't think he lead with the knees but they made pretty significant contact.

Do we think Dylan Brown is sharpening his knees for a their rematch later this season (they play again in round 5!)?

Watching the game and just a few things I think the coach needs to look at:

- we look unfit and/or lazy. We don’t put pressure on their kicker. Players walking around. No line speed.

- we don’t have a game plan. Maybe this is having a new half combination but it just looks like they’re making up as they go. For example, Moylan getting the ball, looks around for someone to give it to, everyone is standing looking at him, so Moylan takes a hit up. Need to workout how to get Kennedy the ball.

- last tackle options. They didn’t have any apart from give it to Hynes and just kick it

- Nikora needs to get more involved. 6 runs for 39 metres compared to Wilton with 13 runs for 104 metres. If the ball isn’t coming to him, he has to go to the ball. He can’t just wait for a pass into a hole like he did with SJ.

- left side defense needs work

- need to workout who the 7 is

- with Brailey running from hooker, he needs people running with him, Kennedy

- Kennedy needs to work on his defense and positional awareness

These are just a few things I think the coach needs to look into, I’m not having a go at anyone 👍🏻

During which periods of the game did you find we looked unfit and/or lazy?

Last tackle options and some other combinations did look very rusty. Like, I would say even more sloppy than I'd expect from round 1 with a halves pairings first time together.

I do think Nikora maybe could have found another couple runs if he really wanted but like Burgess said, he has a channel he is supposed to stay in/near and we did play more towards Teig quite often.

Yes our side with Ikuvalu (likely injury replacement, 0 games for us, 38 overall), Ronnie (0 NRL games at centre, 40 overall), Wilton (injury replacement, 21 games) and Moylan (did not trial) was messy defensively.
I don't disagree, but as per my notes I am not overly surprised.
I'd hope they would improve quite quickly, even if that means a reshuffle to Ronnie wing Tracey centre. Right side had the usual Nikora, Ramien, Katoa combo you'd hope have good reads on each other by now.

Agree we need to be more awake to Blayke. Think McInnes is someone who can contribute to that well but also Kennedy and Hynes.

They looked tired from pretty early in the game mate, standing around with hands on hips.

I look at Penrith who played more games than any team except for South’s, who also had the shortest preseason, and they look super fit and energised. They have great line speed, and they don’t stop.
