Honestly who cares who it is. People's medical information is supposed to be private and none of anyone's business.

I agree.

I believe all medical details should be private. I don't know why in this day and age, when a player is taken down the tunnel injured we have a camera following them, live updates from the sideline passing on information from the club doctor, footage in the changerooms of players being tended to, and in some cases, being put in an ambulance.

If a player wishes to talk about their ACL tear publicly, so be it. But anything else the club should just give a estimated time frame and not feel the need to go into details.

Players aren't allowed to call their families from the changerooms to put them at ease, yet we can have Fittler announcing it the Ch 9 commentary team 🤷

Somewhat interesting. Pretty sure a few of us put this idea forward a few months back.
Personally, I think this is a very good tweak to the rule.

SIX-AGAIN TWEAK

renderTimingPixel.png

As if there haven’t been enough rugby league rule changes … now the NRL wants to tamper with the controversial six-again law next season.
Under the new plan, teams will get a penalty inside their own 20-metre zone instead of six-again for when the opposition is offside or caught interfering and slowing down the play-the-ball. This often happens early in the tackle count when teams deliberately give away a six-agains to keep opponents pinned on their own line.

I think early in the tackle count would be better than field position. And the 20m zone is not enough, saw teams doing it way further into the mid-field last season.

This is a very solid point. Media should be out of the change rooms and family first person called.

Nah then teams do it to reset their line defending their tryline.

Maybe a penalty in your own half?

I agree the camera of a dude crying in pain/distress in change room is too far.
I believe clubs have two staff eligible two have phones in change room? Maybe they should make sure one is someone who can be with an injured player for a couple mins if needed (not perfect solution but better than none).

In saying that, they know the camera is there and they might get injured but are happy to take the broadcast $$$ - broadcasters want more and more if they are to spend more and more.
Maybe players association should push for that camera not to be used for injured players though.

Think it is a pretty different conversation from whether someone is opting to not be eligible for all games or not.

Agree, cameras shouldnt be in the room peering at injured players, even the celebrations etc, should be for the inner sanctum to enjoy imho. Yet its all the $$$$ i guess, and RLPA would have signed off on i guess.

Always remember vividly poor Brent Tate after doing his knee, crying in his dads arms. Little voice in my head saying we shouldn’t be seeing this.

Agree, this conversation is not about the player that is declining to be vaxed , it is about protecting the other players , staff , members & fans .

NRL players were fortunate enough to keep being paid during the lockdowns unlike many others & now some players are prepared to think they can keep taking the $$$ but put their team mates & others at risk.

If the NRL had any balls they would have issued a no vax no play mandate & saved the clubs from now having to deal with the problem .

Bit of a rambling article, but principal 2 peaks the interest:

Yeah he seems like a guy who doesn't know much about rugby league feeling peeved and left our that he doesn't know much about rugby league.

He had a few good points but I'd trust an experienced former player as a talent scout over someone with a business degree any day.

I might then ask the guy with the business degree to help me balance the cap.

Waiting for the government to do it for them. No unvaxed will be welcome to play anywhere by kickoff so it'll be vax up or retire.

Asiata already pulled the plug.

Saw something suggesting there was possibility of unvaxed players facing wage reduction of 20% and it not going back into clubs cap… but I’m not sure where that concept came from

They’re on the right track, I would of set it at the halfway line instead of just inside your own 20. Infringement against you in your own half: penalty.
Infringement against you in the opponents half: 6 again.

Kick from a penalty puts you into a much better field position 21-50 than it does 0-20

The 0-20 kick is enough to let you get away from your line without moving you well into the opponents half or even putting you into an attacking position.

I assume they didn’t want to go from all 6 again all the way back to half penalty half 6 again and felt this was a good point to keep mostly 6 again but punishing specifically one of the main abuses

A Carlton player in the AFL just retired. He didn't give a specific reason but he's refusing to get the jab.

Massive call to give away 500k a year.

Yeah, it's one thing to stand up for what you believe in, it's another to throw away a stupidly high paying job over what the other 95% of the population has already done

That’s called flexible morality. Props to him for sticking to his guns.
