Morroco just ran out of gas. Injuries finally caught up to them and they just couldn’t find a way to get through France even if they controlled a lot of the game.

Why do they need a third place? Can't imagine losing your semi then having to back up for a game like that. Maybe I'm just used to sport here.

I’m with you! It’s obvious for the Olympics to have a 3rd place, don’t see the need for it at the World Cup

There’a a difference in prize money for 3rd and 4th. Everything before the semis (QF, Ro16) are flat rates.

Come to think of it, the champions league (or the UEFA cup) does not have a 3rd place either. Only the world cup and I think Euros have it too. Maybe they do it at the international level.

Not sure if that’s the answer either mate. That competition gives hope to some of the smaller clubs of winning a trophy or making a cup run. I think the bigger clubs that compete in Europe will just need to use it as a comp to play their youngest players (which most already do)
