Dear members,
I have some exciting news about our plans to ensure you, our members, have a great home base over the next two years while the Leagues Club is redeveloped.

As you know, we have been seeking expressions of interest from other clubs in the area to provide reciprocal arrangements for you while our club is closed.

During those discussions it became clear that the Sporties Group – which currently operates Kareela Golf Club – may be interested in entering an agreement for the Sharks to take over the club.

We have now progressed those talks and the Sharks will officially amalgamate with Kareela Golf Club early in the new year, subject to the various approvals.

This is a fantastic development and it means we will continue to have a home base where we can celebrate our team’s wins in 2020 and 2021.

It also means we will have an asset which provides a revenue stream while our club is closed.

Kareela Golf Club is only 10km away from Netstrata Jubilee Stadium at Kogarah where we will be playing our home games for the next two seasons.

Make no mistake, if this proposal goes ahead we will turn Kareela into a genuine home club for Sharks supporters.

Naturally, the agreement would also open opportunities for you to take up golf memberships and use the club’s other facilities.

We have come a long way in the last couple of months. We were facing two years without a home ground or club. Now we have both.

Clearly, the Sharks Leagues Club will revert to being our home base once the redevelopment is completed. We are going to have one of the best Leagues Clubs in the NRL.

And we will have another asset at Kareela. A golf club which is currently cash flow positive to make our club even stronger.

We are determined to secure the financial future of the Sharks and this proposal is the next step in achieving that goal.I will keep you updated on any developments, including the outcome of the vote to approve the amalgamation.

Regards
Richard Munro

So if we take out the minor premiership, and then play somone like Titans in week 1, we'd be playing the game at Allianz or ANZ?

We’ve played the cowboys in finals at the SFS a couple of times and they worked out ok

I thought Munro was quite impressive last night, hopefully stays around. Maybe a little thin skinned in regards to some of the criticisms from some of the older members, but otherwise I felt more confident after his presentation.

Some other notes:
- Ben Ross is new membership manager, he spoke well too. Said they have put a lot of work into mapping the old seats to the new, including trying to keep groups together. All current grandstand seat holders will be undercover at Kogarah. They have kept some bays free for those who want to move
- they are looking to open a bar at the bottom of the ET Stand for members only (the “Bunker Bar”). Operating part time on certain nights/weekends/away games for the next couple of years and then staying around after. Aiming to have different player meet and greet events there. Access may be a membership add-on
- hoping to get Federal funding to match the State funding for Centre of excellence. No exact timeline on this, he said building would start when they get full funding. Centre of excellence will be based on Pacific Islands theme
- trial matches vs Bulldogs on 22 Feb (venue tbd) and Manly at Kogarah on 1st March
- the floor where the auditorium is will be the bistro/deck etc. the floor above will be totally focused on functions (corporate, weddings etc)
- the main membership packages are 11 games or first 6 games or Flexi 3. The Sunshine Coast game is an add-on that will be first priority for members.
- even though you need to get 11 game package to secure shark park seats, it sounds like they may negotiate for special circumstances such as very elderly, health problems etc. main theme was “do you support the stadium or the team”.
- Aiming to have an open day at Kogarah for people to test their seats out
- Aiming to have buses from either shark park or somewhere more central
- Aiming to have buses back to Kareela. Probably won’t have buses from there as club would get parked out
- the CEO committed to having more of these town hall meetings
- PointsBet have extended their sponsorship to 7 years, they will get other trade offs for next two years with no stadium (like higher profile on jersey etc)
- I think the CEO said there will be 10 million left as a reserve at the end of this process, but couldn’t hear him 100%.
- there was a good turnout nearly all the seats in the auditorium taken. Maybe 30% unhappy (“you’re blackmailing us”), 30% positive, the remainder neutral.
- John Morris wanted the 11 games at Kogarah

One was a double header and the other was a prelim.

Playing a team like that in week 1 of the finals at a stadium is idiotic.

The partnership with Kareela Gold Club is a strange one. Getting there by public transport is ****house.

Overall happy with Kogarah, happy with what they’re trying to do with seats at both Kogarah and back to Points Bet. Also good on Kareela Golf Club. All pretty cool.

Can you elaborate what you mean by Pacific Islands theme for the Centre of Excellence ?

I'm interested in this, thought the centre was locked in. Didn't realise it was contingent on more funding.
