You don't think they'll make the 8?

Probably will, but when a 16 team comp with a top 8 finals system has 12 **** teams in it, its inevitable that some will be there in September who're just making up numbers. If I were Greenberg I'd make it top 5 finals this year to save everyone a bit of time and hassle.

are they still doing that or have they shelved it due to poor form?

Mate not only did they almost clap at the right times last weekend, they had Raiders legend and RL icon Michael Robertson kick it off by blowing their big horn! One of those moments in sport that will live long in the memories and only grow greater as the tale is retold for generations.

Personally I prefer the A League approach where 60% of teams make the finals. Everyone gets a go, like in kindergarten.

Question: anyone know whether the NRL has confirmed squad sizes for next year? And whether they'll be substantially different to what they are currently? Or is it all tied up in the CBA negotiations?

If by squad sizes you mean how many players must be making at least the minimum ($80k) the current numbers is 25 and the number proposed by the NRL in the negotiations is 30. I haven't seen anyone complaining about that number so even though it isn't confirmed I don't think there is much opposition to it.

I would also expect the players to be negotiating for the minimum to go up also ... so if the new minimum is $100k it means at least $500k of the new total cap number is taken by those five blokes before you start divvying out the booty to the top 25.

Thanks Burgess. That's what I was referring to
. As it happens, apparently they agreed on this today. Article in the SMH.

Thanks AB. Any progress is good.

Just checked out the article.

For those who don't like clickbait:

- Clubs can have between three to six "development list" players – on a minimum salary of $60,000 plus match fees – on their books;

- Minimum salaries for top-26 players will be $100,000;

- Players 27-30 have a minimum salary of $70,000, with no maximum salary constraints;

- No restrictions on payments to players under the age of 20 if they comprise the top-30 squad.

- Clubs will be required to contract a minimum of 21 players by November 1 and 29 players by March 1, leaving one spot available up until June 30. The idea is for clubs to persevere with the players on their books, rather than look for a quick fix by trading them unless there are exceptional circumstances.

***

Article continues to say that the NRL hasn't increased its original offer of a $9m cap. Other articles have also suggested that the long term player allowance will go up to around $400k per team. No details on the second tier cap as yet.

I would very much enjoy WoManly stripped of some points in '17, then for them to recover and just scrape into the Top 8 re raising their supporters hopes, only to be knocked out of the finals by us.

I don't want them anywhere near us in the finals!

If we played them in the GF and smashed them, well that would be sweet revenge indeed!

I'd rather play the Storm in the GF than Manly. I wasn't around for 76-78, and I'm ****ing glad.
