I have a question: Why do the NRL jerseys always look the same year after year? What I mean by that is, in football (soccer that is), the clubs try to come up with different designs for all 3 of their jerseys (home, away, alternate) every year to lure the supporters to buy new jerseys.
However, I see a trend here that any NRL Club's jerseys look almost the same every year, save for the sponsor name (if they change). Is it becasue the market is so much smaller than football or is it more of a tradition thing?
One exception is the indigenous jerseys. They always come up with a different design and they look awesome. So what is the incentive for a supporter to buy a new jersey this year if they already have last year's jersey?
Also, the names on the jerseys... Whay doesn't NRL allow names on the jerseys and always keep the same numbers? It is a huge marketing thing for rest of the world and almost every sport has it. Why does NRL oppose this so much? Again, is it a tradition thing or something else?
