It's too expand the region away from Sydney.
We could say our area goes from the Shire all the way down to the Vic border (Illawarra excluded), and someone like Penrith can claim as far West as they want (Capital Country excluded), like how GWS claim NSW from the Western Sydney to Broken Hill.

Your suggesting Southern Sharks would be everywhere (NSW) not covered by another club from current to border so would need to be the South NSW Sharks or something.
I know you weren’t meaning it as a fully fleshed out idea, just saying most of the teams will still need something in their name that more clearly defines their region than just a compass point.

If we had merged with Illawarra it would make sense to use that branding, but even then you have Souths so it still doesn't work.
As it currently stands it is really the Dragons with the stronger claim to the south of NSW and we are the exception to their area.
If the Sharks were relocated or folded, Dragons would claim the shire the next day. Obviously won't magically convert current fans but give it 20 years...
