There are three criteria for confirmation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage that are usually accepted by government agencies and community organisations.

They are:
  • being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • identifying as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • being accepted as such by the community in which you live, or formally (sic) lived

AK!! - havent they filled the orange peeler position? Does anyone know the format they are going to play next year? I hope its 2 halves, 40min each way, golden point. As opposed to 3 3rds or 4 1/4s, it takes away from the talent lining up against each other. Makes it a gimmick when it should be a game of pride.

I used to have a mate in school who had red hair and was of Aboriginal descent. His father and Mother were 50% Aborigine. Used to call him "Jaffa"(Red on the outside, brown on the inside), he was very proud Aboriginal. I guess Ben Jones is the same.

I vote to keep all Sharks away from this game as I don't want morons like Dell getting in any of their ears again.

I vote for that as well but also to avoid the chance for injury. We don't want to end up like Knights did with Gildey.

I think its great thing. As long as its played lilke a normal game of footy. The Indig team is a kick ass team and the all stars are the best players from the best league. This should be a game played at pace and with passion. Its just played at the wrong time of the year as they should go at it and that could bring injuries. There is a competing market for the aboriginal people and this game is a major tool for luring them to league as opposed to gayfl.

I really love the concept of this game and think it is a good time to play it as the schedule is too big already. They have more players and interchange to hopefully limit injuries and is a good start to the season rather than just the World Club Challenge (which is also a good but under utilised concept) and the Charity Shield.

This will not get to the heights of origin but I really see this becoming a big think down the track once it gets some history behind it. Also may keep overseas (NZ, Papua New Guinea, England etc) players like Benji in the game as he gets to play alongside the best in the world.

Fans choosing is also awesome and pivotal to the idea's success.

I really hope this game gets better marketing during off seasons and becomes a big game on the calendar.

think about it kiwis, aussies and poms play in the NRL and our best players are from all different countries like benji marshall, sam burgess, gareth ellis, jeremy smith verses the ESL which is also from all countries with players such as matt king, lealaia (NFI), pommy's, fa'a, dobson etc

Yeah they have talked about this before and I think it would be good but I really think they have to build up plenty of interest in the WCC and All Star Match before they can bring in another one that mixes both of those 2.

For the WCC they really need to build the idea of the the best team from Australia playing the best team from England. It is such a good concept but due to how late it is on due to timezone screws it. Only the real fans get up at 4am to watch it. If they alternate where it is held and it is actually marketed for a change then they would get more casual fans tuning in for sure.

For the All Star Match the key to success for mine is a rivalry needs to develop like with Origin and that takes time. Problem is the game is not exactly like Origin and it is a racial-themed game. The risk is people can't hate the Indigenous side without feeling like a massive racist and that is the only stumbling block I see.

Again, I love the idea of both games. So many people bag the NRL's management whereas I think they are doing a good job. But I have to say in building interest and marketing for these games they are underperforming.

Reading through this thread I'm wondering just how many games a year people thing the "All Star" players can actually play a year?

The top flight players are already complaining that they're required to play too many games. Good luck trying to get them to play even more unless there are serious dollars on offer.
