If I hear one more person, reporter, sport analyser etc call Australia's group in the world cup, "The group of death". I am going to scream. The group of death is group G.

<EDITED>

COMING CLEAN

Diego Maradona, as synonymous with off-field problems as on-field brilliance, claims he has not touched drugs for six years. After serving drug bans, as well as being dogged by the Italian taxman, Maradona has reinvented himself as the coach of Argentina's national team and told Argentine television he is clean. ''Ten days ago I completed six years without taking drugs and today I value everything I have,'' Maradona said in an interview on Sunday night. ''If I regret anything it is not having been at the side of Claudia [Villafane, his former wife] to see my daughters grow up.'' Maradona's love of the high life led to a heart attack in 2004 and then a bout of alcohol-induced hepatitis in 2007 before he gradually won his battles with addiction.

My rooting interests at the World Cup:

5. Ivory Coast - The Drogba/Kalou combo.
4. Ghana - Michael Essien.
3. England - Super Frank/JT.
2. Australia - Proud of this great nation!
1. New Zealand - Proud of my heritage.

:D

Should be a fun extravaganza!

What the hell is going on here? When I was growing up, if you had a rooting interest, it meant that there was a fine, young woman that you would like to get to know in a more intimate way. When I went on Camp America as a young man, I remember being on the camp bus when we passed a large billboard by the road advertising a local bank and picturing a rather attractive female bank clerk smiling sweetly and promising us that "I'll root for you". My fellow aussie camper and I had fits of giggles for the rest of the day. (amidst bemused glances from the other nationalities who had to put up with our snickering references to 'making a deposit' and 'how soon we could withdraw.' :)

My teams at the World Cup are just 2.

1. Socceroos.
2. Whoever is playing England.

Hahaha I blame the American influence on me. I remember coming home from the U.S. after a couple of years and saying to my little brother "Who are you rooting for this weekend?" and he looked at me hella weird.

Why the **** are so many people on here supporting foreign nations over Australia?

I come from strong England heritage. I was one of the first few in my family born in Australia. So when I was little and the world cup was on, it was England, England, England, nothing else. So there fore I go for them in soccer, but nothing else. I do have a soft spot for them.

Craig Moore - doesnt even have a club and his A-League form was rubbish

how those 2 were selected over Simon Colosimo, ill never know

Poll added; feel free to vote (for who you think will win, not for who you want to win!) and give reasons why.

I think I'll hold off and keep my powder dry until the final squads are announced! ;)

Yeah, It is hard to go past spain. Torres, Villa, Silva, Xavi, Alonso, Cesc... There wouldn't be another squad in the world with that much class.

Ivory Coast have to make it out of Group G... Brazil (Rank 1st) and Portugal (Rank 3rd)... Don't see it happening.

Got to agree, Dropba alone wont be enough to drag his team through the group stages.

are portugal a legit chane to win the cup?

If Ronaldo is fit and firing they have a fair chance of a semi at least. I know you like a dabble at the bookies Hitman and IMHO a combo bet on Brazil to win and Villa (Spain) to be top goalscorer is worth a shot. Odds were 60/1 or so, last I looked.
